What to say when calling after resume has been sent in?

I sent in a resume/coverletter last week and said I'd call shortly after the 4th of July, which is going to be tommorow.

So what should I say when calling? Kinda confused and figured it'd be better to ask than calling up and not knowing wtf to say~

I'd just say, "I'm checking on the status of the resume that I sent in." And then ask when you should hear about the outcome or by what date they are making their final decisions
