I have an asus v7700 gf2 gts 64 card and the fan is making a helluva lot of noise lately.. sometimes it even sounds like it's stopping for a bit. I need to replace it with something..any suggestions?

I replaced my gf3 fan (one loud mothertrucker) with a blue orb running @ 7 volts.

Thinking about getting the thermaltake crystal orb... are these any good?

yeah they are almost always the weapon of choice for videocard and chipsets (either that or blue orb)

Ok ... if I were to get the crystal orb and put it on my asus v7700.. could I plug the power connector into the card like the stock one was? or would this fan draw too much power from that? How is this suppose to be connected?

If that crystal is anything like the blue orb in terms of noise, then i doubt you'd want to plug it into the same place. Instead, you might want to try the 7 volt. But that's only if you can't stand the noise.

The Crystal Orb is better than the Blue Orb in many aspects. The Crystal Orb preforms better in general because the bottom of it is completely flat and covers the entire GPU core, unlike the Blue Orb. On the other hand the Blue Orb only preforms about 2-3% worse than the Crystal, is cheaper, and looks WAY cooler. I have a Blue Orb myself.

i'm not really interested in overclocking the video card so to speak.. I just want to replace this one because it is making a lot of noise like wurring sounds and sometimes it sounds like it's cutting out.. it's mostly bad when I first turn on the computer after it has been off for a bit. If there are any other fans that I could put on it I am open to suggestions.. how noisy are these anyways? most say they are pretty noisy. I already have a thermaltake superorb in there cooling the cpu ... so that will probably drown out the sound of the crystal orb lol

you cant plug a crystal orb into ure card normally, but if you do the 7v mod so it doesnt overload the card, and snip the connector or, then find away to stick the positive & negative wire onto the old chipset fan connector then it`ll work. the third wire is for speed sensing. so unless you card has a 3pin fan connector, leave the third wire loose somewhere, stick it to the back of the card with electrical tape (not behind the mem or core though)

So if I can't plug it directly into the card without cutting all the wires... is there somewhere on my ECS k7s5a board that I can plug it into for power?
