Used for general all-around use. It currently has the Arctic Cooling setup on it.
I'm setting up a rig for a bud & I don't know whether to use this card or go with something else. Whatever I do, it'll have to be around $125. Is there a decent, comparable card out there for that price?
Thanks!

Nvidia 6800, for around that price range.

You MIGHT be able to find a used x800pro for about that price, which would be a great card.

I had 9700pro and moved on to 7800GS AGP.. you know what? I'm thinking of returning this item. I thought about a 6600gt AGP. pretty cheap nowadays. I had 6800GT when it was around 300bucks I returned it because going from ATI to Nvidia seems very unstable. (unless you know how to do the removing registry stuff) I actually formatted my computer to use 7800GS and.. you know.. it's a headache for me right now. It only works without SP2.

Newegg has a refurbed x1600 pro and also a refurbed 9800xt for $111 shipped. Plus any applicable tax, of course.

I'm kinda paranoid about refurbished stuff. :disgust:

The X1600 might support newer features, but as far as sheer, raw performance goes its not really much faster is it?

When I felt like staying with AGP I replaced my Hercules 9700 Pro with an ATI X800 Pro.
Major difference, especially with Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

Eventually I decided to go with PCI-E and got an eVGA 7800 GT. Almost negligible improvements in HL2 but D3 and Q4 got a nice little boost.
And a huge performance boost in FEAR.
Sadly, I like HL2 the most and Doom3 the least. Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought an X1800. Then I remember why I left ATI. Outside of pure performance there were too many issues.
Though I'm immensly glad I went with eVGA.

As of right now there is a 7800GT card on its way to RMA land and I'll be recieving a 7900GTX by the end of the week. EVGA even gave me full credit for the old card. No depreciation or restocking fee involved.

I went from a Hercules 9700 pro to an ATI x850XT and it has been a /glorious/ transition.

I went from a 9800 Pro to a 6800GT several years ago & it made a huge difference, nearly doubled performance in most games for me... recently I've gone back to ATI & have an X1900XTX which was another huge kick in the pants performance-wise.
As for you, a 6600GT is a bit faster the a 9700 Pro but IMO not worth the trouble of the upgrade... the best you can do that I've seen for the money recently would be an X850XT for around $150-$160, but if thats still too much, I'd look for a 7600GS which should be a bit less.
