What to read?

Last time I made this thread, I ended up reading all of the Dan Brown books.

Right now i ordered, but have not read: Know-it All. - supposedly very funny book, about a guy who goes on a 1 year quest to read an encyclopedia to become 'smartest man'... how the additional useless knowledge starts to affect his life etc.

I was also recommended:
Monkey Business - about the stock market. and (i think the book is called Survivor (written in reverse order... u start at teh end and go backwards, dont know much more ...written by the same guy who wrote Fight Club; anyone have the title?).

Right now I'm planning to read those 3. What would you add to the list? Anything good that you've read and/or have been told to read?

EDIT: If you can, provide a brief description of the books.

Start reading Nelson DeMille books. The guy is my favorite contemporary novelist. Great plots, and laugh-out-loud humor. I'm in middle of his latest book, Night Fall. He rules. 🙂

Author:
Neal Stephenson

books:
Cryptonomicon
Quicksilver
The Confusion
The System of the World

books, slightly less recommended:
Snow Crash
Diamond Age

Author: The 9/11 Comission
Book: The 9/11 Comission Report

It's an interesting read, and you'll be a practical expert on Middle Eastern history and the roots of terrorism when you're done.

Snow, by Orhan Pamuk. Best book of the last 7 years. His previous book, My Name is Red, is amazing as well.

John Grisham novels are excellent. Cheap, too, if you buy them in paperback. Like $6 a pop. 🙂

Edit: Legal thrillers - you know them as the movies: the Rainmaker, the Client, etc.

random thought- straight man, but richard... something

very funny. also bel canto by anne(?) patchett, if you dont mind a love story- im a usual sci fi/fantasy guy, and this was a pretty sharp departure from my usual stuff, but by FAR one of the best ive ever read.

also, the sparrow, and children of god, by mary doria russel- nifty jesuits, aliens/alien worlds, theology, incredibly well written, engrossing plot. some of my favorites of all time.
