you should describe what you did in the most impressive course projects (don't just say what classes you've taken).

Lie?

Nah

Have you done anything, projects, hobbies, volunteer work, etc that is even remotely related to the job you are seeking?

If you don't have professional experience then you have the challenge of making whatever job experience you did have sound impressive... like pointing out your work ethic (perfect attendance? rating on last review? Sales of the store?)

Forget about applying... having no experience is like trying to date Jessica Alba... it ain't gonna happen.

Be honest. Do mention major school projects, and courses related to the position, but don't pad the listings. A short, to the point listing is more impressive than spending two paragraphs to describe your rental store database project.

I hope you're applying for an entry-level position, since a job description that says "experienced" means it.

I wouldn't put down stuff like "perfect attendance" unless you are applying for like a clerk position.

If you don't have any job experience, don't put an "experience" section in your resume. Under your "education" section, you should list any relevant courses and big group projects that you worked on. If you are just graduating, no one is going to expect you to have a lot of experience.

Oh so optimistic. If everyone had that attitude, nobody would have professional jobs in 20 years when the current generation retires.

When I was graduating with my CS degree with no work experience, instead of an experience section, I put a section for academic projects. In that section, I listed several programs / databases I had built for things like Senior Capstone, Systems Analysis group project, etc. Since I had no work experience, I thought this at least showed that I did get some experience doing hands-on software development and that I could program.

Something like this, but maybe with more details:

Academic Software Projects
- Designed and implemented an object-relational database in Oracle 8i with a VB6 client
- Designed and implemented a VB6/Oracle 8i document management system that allowed users to submit, search for, and open documents.
- Built an Internet shopping cart application using ASP, VBScript and SQL Server.
- Developed video de-interlacing software for senior capstone project. Application was written in C in a Linux environment.
