this is my first attempt at building my own pc, and i've got some general questions. i've been researching here, tomshardware, etc. so the story so far:
mb: asus p4b533-e
case: antec 1080
but i'm a little confused about the cpu and memory. can someone assist my following questions?
MEMORY
i think i need DDR266/PC2100 memory? (i'm going for 512mb.) i'm not exactly even sure what those numbers mean. am i getting the correct type of memory for the board? would it hurt to buy "faster" memory or would i be wasting money? also, what are some good brands. i see corsair, crucial and mushkin mentioned a lot.
CPU
i think i need to get at least a 2.26gHz processor to utilize the board's 533fsb capability? (i'm not sure.) also, are all p4 chips the same? do i just get an intel p4 chip or are there differences?
also, i'm not as hardcore as some of you guys...i don't plan on overclocking (at least not initially). as this is my first time i want to do a "solid" setup the first time. i'll worry about tweaking once i know everything is working correctly.
