What to push next

I have an XP1700+ DLT3C JIUHB sitting in an ABIT NF7-S Rev 2.0 with 2 512mb sticks of TwinMOS PC3200 CH-5 chips.

Currently...

XP 1700+ is running at 210 x 9.5 on a voltage of 1.6V from BIOs, 1.57V actual.
RAM is running at 1:1, 210 fsb, 2.8V (according to AIDA32) and at 7-3-3-2.5

What should I pump up next? It feels completely stable and currently temps are 41C idle... heading into winter here so that should drop further, especially so if I upgrade cooling which Im thinking of doing.

Should I lower multi, pump fsb until i find my ceiling then push multilier until i find a stable/max spot for my chip?

Even though ive scoured these forums for over a year, I still feel its best to ask the 'experts' first. Best to be safe rather than sorry.

yeah that cpu should have plently more headroom

I would just up the mult till you max the cpu out
I don't know how much farther yur mem can go but even if you have to use ratios to run the fsb faster it won't hurt performance too much

also try for lower latencies on that mem if you can


just be carefull with voltages i wouldn't push the 1700+ over 1.75 personally (lower it is the longer it'll live...)

Well if you want to hit the limit of the CPU first, you drop the FSB and put that Multiplier up much higher..

Once you reach instability there, you go for the higher FSB to increase bandwidth as much as possible.

I would keep your Vcore under 1.8V and pump that Vdimm up to 2.8v

Temps look good, you have a good shot @ 2.3ghz +

Thanks for the advice. Im unsure that I can push my timings much harder but worth a shot.

Im only running a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ on low speed at the minute so Im going to keep a close eye on those temps. Could probably handle Medium noise but if I get my way... I might get an SLK-800A and stick a Panaflo L1A on it. Rather low ambient temps over in the UK give me an edge over some of you US based Overclockers.

Dont think I'll push my Voltage over 1.7V for the cpu though. Dont want to risk it... I dont want to buy much more for my PC for a while.

Those CH-5 chips like higher speed more than the BH-5 chips, but dont like tight timings as well. You should be able to get 220 @ 2-3-2-6 with Vdimm2.8.
I personally think the thermaltake hsf's suck, getting in on that $20 slk-900 at svc might still be cheaper than what you could get in uk.

In my experience... with my V7+ and my dads, they dont suck but everyone has their opinions.

I'll quote from SVC here "NO INTERNATIONAL ORDERS ACCEPTED".

As with most US Firms, no international support available. Also most that do ship internationally, want money up front or charge a bit too much for delivery to make it worth while. $30 for an SLK-900A is one sweet deal though, we pay £37 which is around $60-65 so draw your own conclusions.
