What should I look for & what should I avoid when buying XP Pro from a private party?? New unopened unregistered retail? Unregistered OEM w/key? I'd like to put it on two systems eventually w/o having to buy two copies, is this possible?

I was going to avoid upgrading from 98SE to XP until I built or bought a new system next spring/summer when AMD finally releases Hammer, but after waiting patiently for almost 7 weeks for my new Windows powered I-Pod, I discovered I need to upgrade now. It seems the I-Pod will only work with ME and newer OS.

I checked Price Watch and there are online retailers who are selling it for really cheap, so cheap it makes me wonder and resulted in this post.

What's a good deal for XP Pro?

Do you need XP Pro? Home version should suit you fine.

They are selling OEM versions and you have to purchase a piece of internal hardware to get that price (although that can be something as small as an IDE cable). If it is unused and sealed, you shouldn't have to worry about your purchase.

unless both pcs are identically configured then you'll have a problem trying to activate the second pc's copy!

I bought my OEM version here

It's priced right, and I didn't have to by any hardware to get the OEM price.

Not legally. And the entire reason we have to put up with the Windows Product Activation is because of people wanting to illegally install a single copy on multiple computers.
