Haven't bought a new Television since Martha Quinn was on MTV :Q Wondering if my fellow AT'ers can drop some input on what's hot and what's not?!

Here's some info:

Looking at 27" models, I like flat-screens. I own a DVD player so I guess I need component in? I own a MiniDV Camcorder so I guess I need front A/V jacks - looks like all T.Vs come with front A/V jacks now though? Is S-Cable really neccessary? My MiniDV has S-cable as does Satellite/Cable converter. What about Comb filter? I notice there is 1, 2 and 3 Comb filter capabilities.

It seems that I will be spending between $400.00 - $500.00 for what I want? I found a nice Samsung over at Bestbuy that I like, but it doesn't have S-Cable in, is this really important once again? The price seems good though.

TIA

1) Go to CostCo or Sam's Club B&M, if you have access to these warehouses.

2) Buy Panasonic Tau or Toshiba, best bang for your buck.

Also, look for 26" and 28" TVs....for some reason they're cheaper than odd sizes. Don't ask me why...I don't live in Japan.

Please do so. I have seen some great deals on beautiful Panasonic Tau TV's with all the goodies and some Toshiba's as well.

Hopefully you have an Amex credit card, if you do pay with that so you get a free year of extended warranty AND CostCo has the BEST return policy of any store.

Go to Sams Club and get the Akai 27" flatscreen. It's just a rebadged Samsung for about 2/3 the price.

Linky. Damn fine TV for $299. Dirt cheap service agreement too!

you should go with svideo. its better quality video signal. especially if your using your DVD player alot.

if your dvd player has progressive scan...you could consider getting a tv that can display it. progressive scan means the screen isnt interlaced. you get sharper picture.

for $500 you could get a 32 inch non-flat screen. so consider that.

Thanks, Yeah - I have one of those AMEX Blue cards, I'll definately use it when the time comes.

I'll be connected my DVD player via component cable/in which would be superior to S-Video.

My DVD player is not progressive scan, From what I hear progressive scan is only noticeable on high definition televisions? correct?

I've seen nice 32" televisions with a good variety of features for just around $300.00. I've thought about spending less money, but I think I want to invest in a nice flat-screen with all the bells and whistles.

Thanks everyone, still looking for any other good input ;)
