I am trying to write a general cover letter to accomany my resume but I'm not quite sure what to include. Any constructive thoughts, suggestions, or ideas?

Whatever that makes you stand out from everyone else. Can't get any deeper than that since we don't have your resume to go off of.

write about who you are, what you're studying or have studied (if it's applicable to the job you're applying to), and then write briefly about your job experience and how it makes you a good match for the particular company.

Best advice I got from a friend who is doing hiring now is to keep it short and to the point. Your resume goes into the details.

And it does need to be tailored to the company in question.

A good idea is to use a bullet-list in the cover letter going over the points in the ad you are responding to, and how you meet (and exceed) the requirements or description on each point.

I'm in the same boat. I hate writing cover letters. I like my resume but ugh....cover letters. I'm struggling with one now. :(
