I'm upgrading my system and here are my two(three) options:

1. getting used setup: 180€
c2q q9300
asus p5k-eupi mobo
ddr2 4gb of ram(new)

2.new setup: 320€
Phenom II X6 1055T Six Core 2.800MHz AM3 125Watt Box
870A-UD3 SocketAM3 DDR3 ATX FSB5200 870 X SB850
HyperX 4GB Kit 2x2GB DDR3 1600MHz Non-ECC CL9

3.new setup: around 300€
some i5 processor-new-the best i can get for 180€ -either 650, 660 or 760(760 best?)
used (maybe new) mobo for 1156 socket-60€-80€
4gb of ram-new-60€

4. just found a used working station: 360€
- Intel Xeon Dual-Core 5160 3.0 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache, 64-bit,
- dual processor motherboard with Intel 5000X chipsetom,
- 8 GB PC-2 FB rama (quad chanell)
- WD Raptor 80 GB 10.000 rpm,
- Geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB,
- 750W Rev.03

So, what should i get? I would use this pc for mixing(highly threaded apps) and everyday use(with occasional gaming-i've got hd3870). For about the same money(300&#8364😉 i can get phenom II X4 955BE. On the other hand, if i go with no.1 i could invest the difference in more ram/ssd/just spend it on smtn else. I like option 2, cuz there are 6 cores and the mobo has plenty of I/O options, although I'm not sure what to get.
If i go the xeon way i can sell my hd3870 or 8800gts(or both and get something new) and save some money. +I get raptor for system stuff and 8gbs of ram. How would it perform in this configuration and how if i put in another xeon 5160? How would 2 physical processors perform with games?
I'm from Europe and i can buy from anywhere that ships to Slovenia, although the new parts I checked prices at are from mylemon.at

Thanks.

PS: The old system was a e6750 build with crappy mobo that supported 1066 only-so i wanted to change the mobo and i wound up selling mobo, ram and cpu and am getting something better. I also have a laptop with i3@2,4ghz,4gb ddr3 ram and hd5470 512mb ddr3 gpu, so i do want something better/faster. If there is no big difference witht he new system i can run for some time ony with laptop.

edit:the last option in poll is under no.5 obviously

I have two xeon x5355 and they work great for everything I need, and I always say the more physical cores the merrier, but if your doing a lot of mixing then you might be better off with a 6 core setup rather than the dual setup xeon workstation you've got listed, as two 5160's only give you 4 cores and no HT, there's nothing to say that you couldnt swap the 5160's for 5355's or 5365's then you'd have 8 cores... not too expensive if you can find a bargain on ebay for engineering samples.

If you can get an i5 760 within the budget, do that. Otherwise the Phenom II X6. Either way, you don't really need DDR3 1600, DDR3 1333 is plenty.

Yeah I know, but there is no price difference, so why not=) All the test show that x6 is faster than every i5...

Yeah I forgot to say highly threaded apps. When is Bulldozer expected to come? Sandy Bridge is coming in Januray 2011 right? Also, is Bulldozer gonna be AM3 supported/on AM3 socket?
EDIT: fuckit, I'm gonna get x6 and thats it. Thanks for your help=)

Benches, what benches? You must have been comparing the dual core because it does not beat it in everything :awe:

I voted for the 1055T though ^_^

I corrected myself in the next post...in highly threaded apps it wins over i5. And I'm expecting the x6 rig to arrive on monday=)
