mp3 player for a 5 year old girl? wow.
What's her favorite doll/cartoon character?
Does she like to help mom with the cooking? (EZ-Bake)
5' stuffed animal?

edit: Better yet--with 50 bucks you can almost get her tickets to Disneyland.

Toys, or books, preferrably toys... Kids that age arent old enough for CD/MP3 players yet...

My daughter is 5 and uses her own cd player, computer (games), gamecube, tv, and DVD player. Don't underestimate the kids.

Just drop by the mall tomorrow. You're bound to find something, and I'm sure you can get it gift wrapped too. If you don't have time for the mall just go to like walmart or target and pick something up there. You should be fine.

Get her a big box of messy art supplies. Glue, construction paper, paints, beads, pipecleaners, popsicle sticks, stickers, those fancy scissors that cut patterns, felt, glittery pens, yarn, etc. Trust me, it will be the best present she gets. Go to Michael's or Walmart or a craft store and load up. She will LOVE it.

Books!

the perfect gift and one that serves a purpose. Or a gift certificate to Barnes & Nobles.

If there is a Build-A-Bear shop locally (usually found in malls), get her a gift certificate for $50. That's about how much a nice animal will cost. Her mother or someone can take her, she can pick out which animal she wants (from a large selection), gets to help stuff the thing, and there are extras so that she can customize to her heart's content (for a little more $). I've found the BaB store to be a big hit with kids in that age range.

Part of the charm is the "hands-on" approach to making their own stuffed animal. They seem to like that alot.
