What to Expect from this RAID setup

I have an ABIT KG7 with an XP 1600+ (AGOIA) which i usually run at about 1.7ghz.
I just ordered a pair of WD 80GB Special Edition 8MB cache drives...

what can i expect when setting these drives up in a RAID 0 Stripe performance wise as compaired to my 20gb Maxtor 7200rpm (old school drive)?

It will be faster, as long as it runs. Abit is crap and if your RAID 0 crashes you lose everything.

I ran a KT7A RAID board in RAID 0 with 2 IBM 75GXP's. It was faster than my brother's SCSI machine in everything but seek times. Then one of the IBM's died. All data was lost. Then the mobo died. I had to file with the BBB to get Abit to replace it under warranty.

I dont care if it crashes once, as long as its not happening all the time--that stuff happens when you fool around witha PC too much--as for vital information, i keep my music stored on another drive (80gb maxtor quite drive) so if the RAID goes down, tis just a simple reinstallation--as long as i dont have to do it but once in a blue moon.

i was just curious what i could expect performance wise, i know that a single 80WD800JB drive performes at 31000 (sandra score) while a pair of ATA100 RAID0's give a score of 36000.

i'm quite excited for the possibiltiies these drives would provide for me (and if something bad happens, i can sell the drives for a 100 a peice to friends, so no biggie)

I have an old 20GB Maxtor (7200rpm) that was my main hard drive and then I upgraded to 2 40GB IBM 60GXPs in a RAID 0 config a while back. All I can say is the performance difference was VERY noticable. I'm sure quite a bit was due to the improved performance of the IBM drives, but the RAID does increase this performance even further for me, mostly during taxing my system while gaming.

I think you'll be amazed in the difference going from an older Maxtor drive to a special edition WD, even moreso with RAID.

I would hope most people are smart enough not to put valuable info on a RAID0 array.

Call a lawyer. If it was under warrany, you had proof (a receipt), and you hadn't damaged the equipment due to negligence, they are legally required to fix or replace it. Sure you're telling us everything?
