What to expect from an AMD 2600+ mobile?

My friend is giving me a AMD 2600+ mobile for free and I plan to replace my 2500+ with it. Currently, I'm able to get 200 X 10.5 (2.1ghz) out of my chip at default voltage with the stock HSF on a Shuttle AN35N. What kind of overclock or speed gains can I expect from this little upgrade, as I am not too familiar with the mobiles (with stock amd 2500+ HSF). Thanks in advance!

Whoa, for free? Why can't I get friends like this? :D

M2600+ generally go to about 2.5-2.6Ghz with the right cooling. You should be able to pull 2.2Ghz with the stock fan if the voltages don't get too high. I'd suggest upgrading to something better if you really want to push the mobile.

With the 2600+ mobile, you should be able to hit 2.4ghz minimum with a good board and RAM. As Sonic mentioned, you might be able to go as high as 2.5 or 2.6ghz if the other components can handle it.

My 2600-M is currently running at 12.5x190 = 2375mhz w/ 1.70v, but my older 8RDA board doesn't like a FSB higher than 190-195.

with a decend Heatsink 2,5Ghz with 1,7-1,75V is no problem.
But when you don't neeed all the power it's easy just to lower the multiplyer an run it on 2 gigs with 1,375V, as I'm doing, when i'm not plying or decoding.

First of all, don't use the stock heatsink on the mobile; they generate a TON of heat at high speeds.

Once good cooling is in place, go for 2500mhz to start, then see if you can hit 2600mhz. If you're very lucky you'll even hit 2700mhz, although I don't think I've ever seen this done on less than 1.90v.

If you're going to use stock cooling, I guess 2400mhz might be feasable at around 1.725v or so.

Thanks for all the info guys. If I do decide to upgrade the HSF, what is a cost efficient solution? I don't need to go overkill and also I want it to be relatively quiet.

Get an SLK-800A and stick a 90mm fan on there. I prefer medium-RPM. It's not very loud. Thermalright is typically the way to go, and they are usually under $30. Check hot deals for where to find one for cheap. I've seen them go for under $20.
