What to do?

My cordless phone broke and I'm debating if I should throw it away in the trash or find some recycling center. I don't want any of the lead components to go into landfills... so my question is, do computer recycling centers take these types of items for recycle or do I have to just throw it away in the trash to possibly contaminate the environment later on?

Update: I currently live in Oregon and found a few computer recycling places. The following items are usually accepted: monitors (sometimes w/ small fee for disposal), keyboards, hard drives, printers, modems, cabling, networking devices, fax machines, digital cameras, copiers, telephone systems, VCRs & stereos. NO home appliances or microwaves.

perhaps donate to charity? i know there are charities out there that take older computers and whatnot, working or no, and cannibalize to build working machines.

i'm not sure if a cordless phone would be something that could be easily fixed - i would imagine so.

post your outcome - i'm in somewhat of the same boat...

EDIT: what about ebay? might only get a buck or two, but somebody might have a use for it...
