Ok, after the 1600+ in my other box w/an NV7-133R died I'm in need of a solution. My current rig is a NF7-S v2.0 w/a 1700+ @ 2.2, w/Alpha 8045 and a gig of TwinMos PC3200. From cheap to expensive, here we go:

[*]Find a cheap Athlon XP in the FS/FT and throw it on the NV7-133R and then get an AX7 from SVC. Total cost = ~$50-$60

[*]Buy a 1700+ from GameVE, overclock it and "retire" my current 1700+ to the NV7-133R + AX7 from SVC. Total cost = ~$75

[*]Buy a 2500+ from NewEgg, o/c it and "retire" my current 1700+ to the NV7-133R + AX7 from SVC. Total cost = ~$100

[*]Sell my NF7-S v2.0, put 8045 and 1700+ in NV7-133R, buy IS7 and P4 2.4C for new machine. Total cost = ~$200

I'll really miss the Soundstorm, but if my chances of hitting ~3GHz with a retail 2.4C, IS7 and my current ram is possible, it might be nice to have the extra power (I mostly do movie/mp3 encoding). BTW, the computer with the NV7-133R will probably be going to the gf soon, and she's even content with her P2-450, though I'm hesitant to put XP on it. :) Argh... just when I thought I was safe!

I am contemplating the same thing. Keeping my current setup or going to option #4.

Maybe I need to reevaluate some benchmarks and the likelihood of hitting 3GHz (more would be nice, but I'm not picky) with that 2.4C. I have some money, but I'm also trying to save... ahhh, decisions.

Of course! I'll be happy with 2.2... if not I'll have wished I'd gone the cheaper route.
