I have access to an OC-3 Line with a couple other people and was looking for some ideas as to what kind of business I could run off this... Main things are we don't have a whole lot of processing power(maybe 2-3 avg/good comps, about 100-200gigs storage) and no office space. I know, I know, setup q3a, UT, HL servers :) But seriously if ya have any ideas I'd like to hear em.

You could run a webhosting business. But you don't have enough storage. Oh well. Counter-Strike server. :D

how's it go again...

a T3 is something like 23 T1's.....

and T2 is more...

and OC-3 is even more than that?

what's the Mb/sec or Gb/sec for the above lines?

T1 = 1.5mbit/s
T3 = 45 mbit/s
OC-3 = 155mbit/s
OC12 = 655mbit/s

and it keeps going up... :) Last I heard they were up to an OC-192... whoa mama that's fast! :D

T3 is 3x faster than T1 (I believe T2 is 2x faster than T1)

OC-3 is 3x faster than OC-1 (if such a beast exists)

[edit]maybe its 30 times faster[/edit]

If I come up with an idea do I get a cut of the profits???

How about a web mirroring service? I'm sure plenty of sites would like a mirror on an OC-3! :)

OC-1 51.84 Mbps
OC-2 103.68 Mbps
OC-3 155.52 Mbps
OC-192 9.953 Gbps

DS-1 (T-1) 1.544 Mbps - 1 T-1
DS-1C (T-1C) 3.152 Mbps - 2 T-1
DS-2 (T-2) 6.312 Mbps - 4 T-1, 2 T-1C
DS-3 (T-3) 44.736 Mbps - 28 T-1, 14 T-1C, 7 T-2

edit:
OC-256 13.219 Gbps
OC-768 52.877 Gbps
Thought those two haven't been fully defined.

WOW!

The future is gonna bring some pretty amazing things. I look forward to the whole video on demand thing. I know some cable systems have it now, but imagine when the masses will be able to download/watch-in-real-time a full length movie. Of course, you'll output it to your flat screen HDTV via component video (or wireless). For that matter, in the future, TV's will have built in computers for just such an option.

thx for the ideas so far guys. Mirroring would be an easy solution. I'd kinda like to have more control and input as to what I'm putting on it tho. Something I can develop from my own input instead of just from what some other company needs

You got the OC-3 line before you knew what to do with it? I thought it usually went the other way. You know, have great idea for internet business, then lease on OC-3. :confused:

Can you run a cable to my house? I'd pay $40/mo for an OC-3, maybe $50 if the tech support was good!~! ;)

Only OC-3? awww man...should be OC-12. What can you run with a small little pipe like that? How about some quad-OC-12 action...now there's a fat pipe :D
