What to do with my memory?

I recently aquired 256MB of SDRAM bringing the total to 512MB SDRAM, I was wondering will I notice performance increase in Windows 2000 and the upcoming Windows XP? I also was curious as if I should remove one of my 128MB sticks because it is PC100 but the 256MB stick and the other 128MB stick are PC133, should I use that PC100 stick in another computer or not?

I would put all your PC-133 memory into your Athlon and put the 128MB PC-100 stick in another machine. my .02

I would do the same as well, unless the PC100 is capable of running at PC133 speeds in which case, I would leave it in since I believe most VIA motherboards (I assume that's what you have) can run the memory at +33MHz above the FSB...

If you use the 133 with the pc 100 ram, all the ram will drop to 100. Your ram only runs as fast as the slowest Ram stick. Definitely pull it.

I believe my PC100 ram goes to PC133 because when I boot it displays it at that speed, how do I check?

Check what your FSB is either in the BIOS or during bootup. If it's 133MHZ, that means your PC100 is running at PC133 speed. Thus, your PC100 if perfectly capable of handling the faster bus speed. However, if you're thinking of overclocking your system by increasing the FSB, I don't think the PC100 will be able to be pushed much further.

The speed at which your memory runs is determined by the motherboard, not the memory itself. The speed of the memory is only its RATED speed - the speed at which it can run reliably at. Merely putting PC133 memory in a MB that already has PC100 memory installed does NOT automatically drop the PC133 down to 100Mhz!

If it turns out to be running at 100, try giving it a shot at 133. If you get crashes or no post, try changing from cas222 to cas223 or something else (try each part at 3, then try 3, then last is just cas333). The bandwidth gains are worthwhile.

As the others have said, you're wrong.

I'd just try it. I had some pc66 ram that ran fine at about 112!!! That was some high quality ram I think eheh
