My 3YO PC just blew up but conveniently just in time for the new SB introduction. I had bought a Radeon 5870 a few weeks ago and shelved the GF8800.

If I get one of the new P67 boards will I be able to reuse the GF8800 as some kind of PhysX card? I don't even know what PhysX is. I do play L4D2, Civ5 and BF:BC2. I have a Corsair HX 520W PSU from my old rig. Will it be able to support OCing the SB, the 5870, likely 5 HDDs and an SSD along with a GF8800?

Thanks,

DD

If you want to sell it, do some research, post it up in FS/FT but COMPLY with the rules of that section.

OP since you dont even know what physx is then I suggest you just sell the 8800gts. there are only a few games that use hardware physx and its not worth the trouble of using hacked driver to get it to work while using your 5870 for graphics.

only a few games use hardware physx and Black Ops, Mass Effect and UT 3 do not. well you can dl a couple of physx demo UT 3 maps but the standard game does not.

Actually, I have one game, which I don't play, that uses PhysX. I think Dragon Age does. I guess I can put it up on FS/FT. I have no need for it. Someone was looking for a 8800GTS 640MB but mine wasn't the right part number. How much is this thing worth BTW? $40-50?

Dragon Age does not use hardware physx. and about $35 shipped like happy medium said sounds like a fair price.

I'd just hang on to it as a spare. I have a 8800GTS512 and a HD4870 1 gig just sitting on a shelf, it doesn't seem worth it to sell them for next to nothing.

I managed to sell my BFG 8800GT OC for $62 on ebay the week before christmas 2010. i highly suggest the OP go this route.

$60 != next to nothing. it went towards my GTX460 upgrade, so for $170-60 = $110 out of my pocket for the new gfx card. all that hardware sitting on your shelf is still worth money, sell it before it becomes completely worthless. i absolutely HATE having old hardware lying around. it takes up space, makes my closet cluttered and it bothers me mentally just having it sit there and do nothing.

if you really need a something, have a crappy 9600GT or less as a "backup", but chances are you probably have a laptop already or something else as a backup!

I think you are right. If it's worth only $35 with shipping at best, it's not worth the hassle of boxing it, taking it to work (on the bus), bringing it to USPS, waiting on line, paying $10 to ship it, and possibly having to deal with problems. I'd be doing someone else more of a favor. I think it'll just sit in the 5870 box as a backup for an emergency.
