I have a 128 gb SSD which I think I'll replace with a 256gb model. Maybe another crucial m4 or Samsung 830. Was going to give my old to my brother but he wants a new one for Xmas so I'll just buy him one I guess.

Any of you just use them for storage or what?

You have a secondary system or a laptop that's still running a platter? So your brother didn't want it - what about parents, significant other, friends, etc?

You don't have to be a gamer to benefit from an SSD.

You could just throw it in there for extra storage. Maybe put your Steam folder on it or something. (Assuming it's big enough.)

Well my bro deff wants an SSD but he would feel crappy getting a used SSD for Xmas while the sister will gets something new. I could use it as backup or sell it but by then it will be cheap. Regardless, the brother is going to get a 128gb model not 256 since those are still expensive unless I can get a deal to grab two of them. No laptop.

Sell both! SSD's are getting devoured on ebay right now, new and used.

What's the sister getting? I'd rather have a used $90 SSD than a new $40 whatsis.

You could take a trip down to FS/FT and see what you could sell it for. (Which might make the 256GB SSD a more doable gift.)

You could use it as extra space for games or apps that require frequent disk access

Haha well these siblings are quite spoiled. The sister got uggs last year and brother only got a giftcard for 50 bucks or so because he didn't want anything. My mom doesn't make enough to buy them what they really would like so I tend to try and get them that with whatever I have left after bills and loan payments.

I would love to get a good deal on a 512 SSD but I guess a 256 for me would be nice and I could sell my 128 if it will get a good price by the time I purchase my new one. I'll ask my brother if he wants my used drive that way I'll just buy myself an upgrade later this week.

EBay deff is selling ssd drives like crazy. Close to the beginning of this year I got the 128gb for $130 and it was brand new at the time.

You buy a new more symbolic type of gift for under $50 and you add the SSD to it too.

Good idea jack but my younger bro now says he wants all the stuff he has on his mechanical drive on the SSD and wants to keep windows in the 1tb drive too which I told him he can't do. He will need to put windows on the SSD, have it optimized and format the mechanical drive for usage of files and games which he doesn't want to format.
