What to do with $11K in old 401K account

redly

Golden Member
I have ~$11K in a 401K account from a job I quit way back in july 2000. I totally realize that I should have rolled this over a long time ago, but have lacked the motivation/knowledge to do it.

Any advice on where to start?? What to invest in?

Also, is Motley Fool forums worth the price of admission? Anyone a member there? Any alternative?

Thanks!

www.Vanguard.com and VFINX. If you already have a majority of your retirement money in S&P500 index fund shares then maybe some VEIEX or VEURX.

fool.com was mildly helpful when I was just starting to invest, but I'm not interested in spending time on picking individual stocks so it has zero day to day value for me.

I'd much rather buy good funds, hold them until retirement, and use the hundreds of hours I save on not stock-timing to read books, watch movies, play games, and nef here.

ermmm

QQQ's left the American Exchange and now trade on the NASDAQ so they are QQQQ's now.

If I were you I would split up the investment

I'm not sure of many good funds off the top of my head but i'd roll it into an IRA and invest in SPYDER's (SPDR's or S&P Depositary Receipts), diamonds, check out some REITs (real estate trusts), HOLDRs and other ETF's (traded solely on the AMEX if i recall correctly)

I work at the amex, but I just graduated college (in may, started my job in august) so im still learning myself

I'd put money into SPYDERS to play it safe, but if youw ant read into TARGETS, REITS, HOLDRs, etc. check investorwords.com

any investors around here send me a PM!
