Hi everyone, I just bought an acer 22" from Circuit city and it has 1 stuck pixel next to one dead pixel. Should I keep it or return it for another one? Thanks

If it's annoying you, exchange it.

It's that simple :)

If it's still within 30 days of the purchase, why not exchange it? You paid hard earned cash for their product, and it should work out of the box. Dead pixels is not a working product.

Actually, not true.

LCD panels often have dead pixels, & according to many manufacturers, a dead pixel or two is not considered a defect.

But i'm not saying exchanging is a bad idea.
I did that when my first LCD had a dead pixel.

look at your receipt. more than likely it will have a tolerance for dead pixels. it depends on the size of the monitor. im guessing that its probably about 7-9 pixels will make a 22" defective.

Most monitors have an amount of dead/stuck pixels allowed before they can be returned for a replacement. But since it's Circuit City, you can easily return and lose the 15% for the restocking fee and just buy another one.

Oddly enough, the only thing I've ever bought with a stuck/dead (sub-)pixel was a Nintendo DS-Lite. Thankfully, I bought it from Wal-Mart and they take anything back ;).

I know, I know. I fully understand manufacturer warranties. I was just trying to encourage the op to get off his behind and make the exchange before its too late. He bought from circuit city so he's got 30 days to return for any reason, even if there isn't a defect.

edit: 14 days, I stand corrected. I still think it should be returned.

My advice is to stop thinking about it, and you'll stop seeing it :). Yes, you could exchange, but the one you get in return may have a malfunctioning pixel. On the other hand, if people are determined about returning monitors with bad pixels it will certainly encourage OEMs to get processes in place to prevent them, so have at it if you're up for it.

The salesman told me the dead pixel count return policy is whatever the manufacturer considers to be a returnable unit.

Looks like 5 for Acer.
ACER won't replace a display until it has 5 or more dead pixels - they usually aren't too obtrusive, and it's a rare LCD screen that doesn't have at least one out of the box).

assuming you can still return/exchange it... you could try the instructions here to see if you can fix it... if it works out, super, your problem is solved. if not, return/exchange the monitor while you still can.

He only has 14 days and he will have to pay 15% restocking fee for a monitor if it is not considered defective. But, I think Circuitcity will exchange it without charging a restocking fee.

Try to make 4 more stuck pixels and have the manufacturer send you a new one. :)

Yeah, I think there's a certain number of dead pixels before it can be deemed as a defect. If I recall, even Newegg has a policy where there needs to be at least 3 or 4 before you can return a LCD. On that note though, I believe this can be waived depending on the location of the dead pixel. If it's right smack in the middle and staring at you, that can be taken into consideration as well as that is more obtrusive then say 3 or 4 dead pixels along the edge or corners of the screen.

Also, I believe, if there are bad pixels in one area the manufacturer has to take it back.

One dead pixel is a defect to me. I'd fight like hell to return it. If I couldn't I'd make as much noise as possible.

I just rechecked the monitor again and it has 4 dead pixels on it. So I think I am going to return it for another one.
