Many of the users have complained that the new iPhone models are overheating sometimes, and the most common reasons could be:

  • When many apps are running side by side
  • Apps that need a lot of computing space are running
  • Restoring a lot of data from iCloud
  • When the phone is charging
Some easy fixes are as below:

Step 1
Force Close iPhone Apps

On the home screen, swipe up from the screen bottom to the middle. This will show a carousel of apps open on your phone. Tap and hold the app, a red minus sign appears on the apps at top left corner. Tap the red minus button and the app will be forced to close. Follow the same procedure for all the apps that open on the phone.

Step 2
‘Restart’ iPhone

Press and hold the power button and volume down button for ten seconds (power and home button for iPhone 6S and earlier generations) for at least 10 seconds until the phone restarts and Apple Logo appears.

Step 3
Check Your Cables

If your iPhone is overheating during battery charging, then the issue might be with the charging cable. Make sure that you are using the original charger and cable. You can also try charging your phone with another apple charger to check if the problem persists. If your phone does not overheat when you use another charger, it may mean that your charger is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Step 5
‘Turn OFF’ Some Background Apps

Background apps consume a lot of computing memory without our knowledge. By stopping a few such background apps, the phone can function better and cool down easily.

Click on ‘Settings’, ‘General’, ‘Background App Refresh’ and Turn Off unwanted background apps or all the apps. This will help in cooling your phone and save battery too.
