i have about $200 to spend. i need to buy a cdrw so that i can have a form of backup for my files (large files- e.g. 300megs+ each)
i will be backing up very often.
do i
A- buy an aopen 12x10x32 for 185
or
B- buy any 4x4x32 drive for 100 and scrap up some ram w/ the 85 left
or
C- buy any 4x4x32 drive and save the 85 for something else?

thx!

btw- has anyone had experience w/ the aopen drive?
decent i imagine, but how does it compare to the plextor and tdk?

If you back up often, the simple answer is to go with the 12x. Personally, I would go with an 8x, you should still have enough money for a ram upgrade as well and be able to back up in half the time. The gains from 8x to 12 x is a minute or two.

why don't you buy something like a Jaz drive and save money on the cd's you have to buy for each backup? plus then you get 1 or 2 gigs of space. albeit, i have no idea how much they cost

I suggest you avoid Acer burner, you can see the large amount of problems written about them here at the forums. Plus you do not need the 12x speed, the 4x speed is more that fast enough, the difference is only about 10minutes I guess when using the max speeds on each cdrw. IF you can get a 6x or 8x that would be nice.

BUt on the other hand, if your going to be using the cdrw alot, you might want a 12x speed, depending on your time situation.
