Hey all, Noobie here and need some help! I'm ordering the neo2 plat and win3200+... what ram should I get for a light OC? I would like to push it to 2.4-2.5 ( I have never OC'd before, so it'll be an adventure but I will for sure keep everyone posted). I was looking at the Mushkin at newegg for $137, doesn't seem like too bad of a deal and from what I have been reading peoples have been having OK luck with it. And my other question: I will be ordering one of those CPU/Mobo combos from Monarch cuz I figured why not, they flash the bios and put it on and the price is just about the same as anywhere else. I would like to order the Venus 7+(for $15), but the thermal grease is so expensive, its like $14! It is the Shin-Etsu G675. Should I just order some cheaper paste and a HSF from newegg? OK, enough questions, thanks for the help all. :sun:

thermal grease should not cost that much.
just buy a good grease from other place. I doubt you'll see much difference from that famous Shin-Etsu & Arctic Silver V

Bigpow-Thanks for the advice. But... do you think it would be worth it as they would install the whole package? I have never put grease on before, is it hard to do (well)?

Hey. :) I did the same thing, only I went with the Asus A8V instead of the MSI. I kinda wish I would have gotten the MSI. Oh well.

I got the same RAM you're getting. The Mushkin c2.5 2x512, right? I'm very pleased with this ram. It will hold atleast 440 mhz completely stable. Mine has run up to 460mhz so far without having problems, and I'm not sure they were ram problems. It's good ram for cheap.

I'm running my 3200+ at 2550mhz (10*255) on the 5:6 divider and 800htt. That's just what I ended up at from screwing around. I can push the ram more, but I don't want to test it too much until I find the cpu's limit.

You should be able to do the same or better with the MSI board and the same processor.

I opted for the Venus7 as well, but didn't order any thermal stuff. Whatever Monarch put on it is working fine for now. My max temp has been 55C when running 100% cpu at 2.6mhz. Well within reasonable limits.
I figured I would just pull it off and use some leftover thermal paste from old builds, but I haven't bothered yet (better cooling planned in a few months). I would save your money and use what they put on it for testing. It's working well for me.

Hey, sounds good, I am starting to get that fuzzy feeling in my tummy that happens right before I order new stuff off the internet.

I agree with Avalon.

Also to answer your question, you have the 2 of the most OCable components on the market, do them a favour and get some "highly OCable" ram as well as a nice PSU. Save your money for now.

Good advice, the only problem is the derned budget. The Mushkin deal @ newegg really hits the right $ spot. Does anyone know (and I know this question is horribly open ended and newbyish) of any good OCable ram in the $150/gig price range? Even possible? Keep in mind, I'm not looking to push this baby to the ends of the earth, just a good healthy 2.4-2.5, and from reading around it seems like people have been doing that with OK ram.

Just buy cheapest ram and run async.. I've shown it makes little difference from highend ram. both corsiar and muskin have a gig for less than $140.. with A64's low latency you will feel no difference and only wallet will hurt,

I just switched over recently to A64, and have to agree with Zebo on this one. I have some Mushkin BH5 and just picked up some TCCD stuff too along with a bunch of real sh1t ram. They all run fine, the quality ram gives you a little more flexibilty to tweaking your settings, but for the additional cash I can say the 1:1 thinking of the past (especially with AthlonXP) is gone from a strictly performance viewpoint.
