When I'm really stressed, I use mental imagery & put the problem in a box, lock it up & tuck it in a corner of my mind.

It helps a little.

Excerise is good.

Hmm, you didn't say "no killing sprees" . . .

Exercise

Write down what is causing the stress and what you can do or change to reduce or remove the causes.

For example: you hate your co-workers, so you can go on a ki--oops, never mind.

Ah, I have had to really work on this! Drugs and drinking are piss poor ways to deal with stress, and they make you old and sick fast. Exercise is the first line of defense, but sometimes you need more.

Try these things...

Warm baths by candlelight...

I carry around a small amber bottle of a lavender and peppermint oil mix. You can get the oils at your health food store. I just open the bottle and use it like smelling salts.

Aromatherapy is actually VERY good for mood altering/enhancing.

For relaxation try:

Vanilla
Lavender
Peppermint
Woods (sandalwood, cedarwood. rosewood)

To pep you up try:

Citrus oils (lemon, orange, bergamot)
Ginger

I have a whole cabinet (apothecary) full of essential oils. They can be blended with unscented oil (usually grapseed) to make a nice massage oil. I have a recipe for just about everything... I have big bottles of Eucalyptus (great for colds!) and Lavender (just great all around) that I use the most. "Now" brand has good prices on essential oils... you can get better quality, but I don't think it makes much of a difference on most oils.

I also use oil warmers to release the scent in my house. (I got mine at The Body Shop) You pour your oil mix up top and burn a little tealight underneath, so all you get is the scent and no smoke (like with incense... I don't use incense because of the smoke).

I burn frankinscense and myrrh in my house pretty regularly, too. Same technique... light a fire under it so that it melts and releases scent.

Good smells are my drugs. :)

Exercise is one of the best ways to remove stress. Hell just go for a jog in the woods or something until you can jog no more. Even just taking a walk can work wonders. Might want to try and read some things on Zen philosophy, it has worked wonders for me.

Exercise or fire up something loud like Disturbed or older Metallica (back when they were good, remember?) and UT2k3.

I think people should read Zen philosophy anyway, regardless of stress levels:)

Kill kittens.

Seriously, if you're really stressed out, you need to learn how to deal with the stress/prevent it. I'm almost never stressed out because I have forced myself not to get worked up over things ;)
