So yah i have a core 2 e6600 and i was using nvidia monitor. It was running at 58C, and never go higher. So people online told me to reattach it but never told me how. So i reattached it not knowing i should put new thermal paste on and now its around 60 and around 68 while gaming. On Core Temps it runs at 62, i didnt use core temps before i reattached so i cant say what it was at. Should i RMA it or get new thermal paste on? I have 7 days to RMA.

No, no need to RMA. Cleaning off the old thermal paste, and applying new stuff is all you need. To clean off the old stuff, I use the waterless hand cleaner with alcohol, but not aloe, or any of that. Pretty much any alcohol is good. Put it on a soft cloth, and wipe the CPU surface, and heat sink surface until both are clean. Thinly, very thinly, apply good CPU thermal paste. Most will recommend Arctic Silver 5, and that's fine. Apply it with a credit card or something, and then re-seat the heat sink without moving it around much; just set it down, press, and clip. This should get your temps back down to the 50's, and possibly 40's after the paste sets.

once i remove the paste thats one how long do i wait before i put the new thermal paste on? Once i put the NEW thermal paste on how long do i have to wait before i can start using my comp? And is there anything else i should know? And how much degrees C do u think the Arctic Silver 5 will lower my temps?

Uh.... well.... as soon as you remove the old stuff, and the alcohol has evaporated, you can apply the new stuff. After putting everything back together with the new stuff, let it it with the motherboard horizontal, to allow pressing for about 10-15 minutes, than start it up as usual. Some people like to run Prime95 for a few hours, but you could also just use it normally, it won't make much difference. As far as paste, almost anything goes. I personally saw no difference between Radio Shack heat sink compound, and Arctic Silver 5. Just go with the best you can get locally, and it apply it very thinly. Results? Definitely below your original 58 degrees if you do it properly. Good Luck soldier!

Either should work, I'm a little curious myself. I've always put a dot, and spread it with a card.

Someone sayd im only going to lose 2C? Right now it gets to 62 on core temps and 70 on nvidia monitor, this is after i reattached it without adding new paste. Before on nvidia monitor it only got to 58C. What temp should it be after?

after the break in period is over by how much degrees should it drop?

And another thing i just thought up. Will i have to change the thermal paste every so often or just if i want to reseat?

Ok im getting really confused and mad.
"Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5 conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity."

What do they mean by severeal thermal cycles? Do they mean, like i sayd before, i will have to keep putting on new thermal paste?

"several thermal cycles" means running the CPU hot (at or near load) on several different occasions. Presumably this means turning the computer on, letting it run hot for a bit, turning it off, and then repeating the process over the course of about 200 hours of use.

You don't have to reapply the compound regularly. One application, done properly, should last years (or until you change the HSF again).

That will work but I personally always use 90% isopropyl as it takes it off easier.

Just make sure when you seat the HSF - if you're going to spread it around with a razor or CC - that you go straight down and evenly. I don't do that myself, I lay it out on the IHS and let the HSF do the spreading around. But I'm also using single core... just read the guide on the arctic silver website and you shouldn't go wrong.
And its small and i've done it before but check your HSF mounting to make sure its fully seated getting direct contact on the whole surface. That alone will raise temps.

Yes. I just use a cotton swab, dip it in the alcohol, and rub off what ever the TIM is. It has worked well and quickly for everything I've run into thus far.

You can also use a coffee filter for cleaning the CPU.

And also, go to artic silver's webiste so that you can see the new way of applying thermal paste on Core 2 Duo CPU's.
