I'll be visiting a friend who just moved to san fransisco. I don't think he knows to much about the town (we're from sweden all of us and he has only lived on the east coast before) and he'll be working the days so basically me and my girlfriend will be on our own to explore the place.

What should we see? All the cool computer place you heard of like Xerox Parc and stuff are they worth going out to? Can you visit them or will we just be wandering about the parking lot?

Also I was hoping to pick up some stuff for my next rig, where are the best places for hardware? Or should I maybe buy online?

thanks people

Definitely check out Fry's Electronics stores while you're there... everything under the sun... just don't try to seek help from anyone who works there because it's not easily available. There are some good buys there, however. They have locations in Palo Alto and Fremont (others too).

As for sights to see, I would suggest seeing the splendor of SF as a city rather than high-tech stuff... definitely check out Golden Gate Park, Palace of Fine Arts, Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard St., Coit Tower, and I would also suggest Muir Woods across the GG bridge.

DO NOT buy anything from FRY's!!
I second the Sony place.
Just wander around and check out all the freaks.
Have lots of pennys to give the panhandlers.
If your going to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge, climb to the top of one of the towers first.
