Definitely get some Seoul food. I hear the ribs are outstanding.

If the layover is in Incheon International (where most flights go through), you'll have to take into account the 1 hour drive into Seoul (longer depending on traffic). There's not much to see immediately around the airport.

Hold up a sign outside the airport that says...

BBQ and Sauna. Do it. Takes an hour or two to get into the city by train from what I remember. Plenty of time to do lots of shit.

Could go shopping at Yongsan for electronics.

I wonder what those Korean IPS panels cost without shipping? :p

Could go shopping at Yongsan for electronics.

As a general rule, electronics are more expensive in Korea than in the U.S. Not to mention that the electric plugs are different and you'd likely have no warranty.

I'd take either the train or "limo bus" to get into Seoul Station. Cost should run about $12. A taxi would run a little over $50 for the same trip and would likely not be much faster. It takes 45 minutes by train or an hour or so by bus or taxi to get to Seoul. From Seoul station, walk outside and there is a line of taxis available both in front and behind the station. Or you could even use the subway if you're more adventurous.

From there, it's really up to you to decide what you'd like to do. Me, I like shopping so I'd go to Namdaemun and then walk over Myeongdong. Or you could go to one of the mega-malls like COEX or Times Square. Any of those would take up an entire day.

We saw the ancient palaces during our layover. Well worth it!

We then grabbed some food (research a great Korean BBQ place--Korean food is amazing!). That left enough time to head back to the airport.

(This was the #1 advice we got when we also posted the question on Tripadvisor.)

Subscribe. I was stuck at Incheon for about 9 hours last time and did not know where to go. Walking around the airport was boring after a while.

finally made it home, that was brutal long took time.
we flew out of Hanoi Sunday evening at 11pm an nd got into Seoul at 5am Monday. didn't get much sleep before that either since we flew from phu quoc to Hanoi the morning before.

in Seoul we took the first limo bus of the day at 6am from icn to plaza seoul hotel. we got into the city at 715. we walked next door to the Starbucks to get coffee water, a bite and a place to rest for an hour and half before the palace opened. at 9 we took a $3 cab to gyeongbuk palace and farted around for 2 hours. very big and a bunch of neat things to see. we didn't have enough energy to wander streets or go shopping or anything like that. at 11 our friend who works in Seoul met us and took us to this awesome Korean bbq joint in itaewon. by the time we were done we took the arex train from Seoul station around 2 and got to icn by 245. we were able to get showered at the asiana lounge and have a glass of wine before our 5pm flight. definitely worth the time if you get stuck with a long layover in Seoul. the limo bus in the morning was approx 15 per person and the arex express train was 8. if you were cheap you can take the non exp for 3 per person.

got into ewr at 11pm and had to wait till 12 am because once of our bags didn't make it until the next flight from sfo ugh.
maybe I'll write a trip report about my 2.5 weeks in Vietnam later! for now zzzz
