What to do in NY?

Looks like I'm going to be in Brooklyn New York for about a week starting tomorrow. Just wondering what is worth while doing there? Any tips for around the area and all that? Of course I've searched up some stuff, but it's better when the info comes from a somewhat unbiased person.

I believe I'm going to be in the zip code of 11229, but I could be wrong. However, I am definately going to near Ave U if that helps.... I want to do stuff close by if possible, but it would definately be nice to explore other areas as well. Right now I'm unsure if I'm going to have my car or not so the closer the better at this point.
I know the bus/train is like $7 a day or $21/week for unlimted rides, so I suppose transporation isn't to terrible...
I can't live without my internet! So I want to bring my laptop with me, but since I'm still not sure if I'm driving, I don't know if I will have my laptop or not... So what are the best ways to get free wireless if I have the laptop or just internet access if I don't have my laptop? Also, anyone aware of free dial-ups for area code 718? The house I will be at does have an old computer, by old I mean only 32 MB RAM! If I can't get access some other way, then I guess I could try using that with dial up :\. Something is better than nothing right?

Thanks for any help :).

EDIT: Also wanted to know if there is anything I should avoid?

some of museum's in brooklyn, and some nice restaurants, all around the bourough hall area. there is some sort of free dial up in NY if you google for it. also internet is also available at some mcdonalds or starbucks of course. i'd get an unlimited metro card (yes it is $21 for a week) and go to manhatthan. i forgot where the new MOMA moved but i heard that it's awesome.

come to think of it, i've never go sight seeing for the past 10 years taht i've been in the city...

good luck and have a fun trip. bring a camera and if you drive, go drive on the BQE at night, over the Kosciuszko Bridge, put your hazards on and go out and take a picutre. it has one of the most beautiful view of manhatthan i've ever seen.

the bridge is the second picture on this link

Even though I live in NYC (Bronx) I dont travel much to Brooklyn but I suggest the Brooklyn Museum of Art , a hot dog meal at the original Nathan's Famous in Coney Island, MTA Transit Museum. There's also the Brooklyn Brewery so you can try some different drinks. I can't think of anything "fun" to do ..hopefully there are some Brooklynites (?) here that could help.

no there is really not much fun to do in brooklyn, except some very interesting restaurants/bars near the bedford area.

Just be aware that you may get arrested and detained for several hours, particularly if you aren't white.

crooklyn... there's nothing to do around there... ;) My wife is from there and I went every other week for a few years. Oh you should be packing if you go anywhere near the Brooklyn Mall (I forget the actual name). Just drive the 30 minutes to Manhattan.

Near Flatbush Mall which is kinda dangerous haha there's great Cheesecake, they opened up a Dallas BBQ near there too so you don't have to travel out to the city

sniper, ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!!!!! try stopping on the K bridge, where the hell would you! Eastbound is the LIE, and west to the Williamsburg and SI. Its a 3 lane road with terrible traffic thats all mashed up. But a beautiful view of manhattan:p

Fvck brooklyn. Go to gray's papaya and get 2 hot dogs and a drink for $2.75 or falafels from Mammounds. Go to Sahara East Hookah Bar between 10&11 on 1st Ave. Quite honestly, if you are going alone, this may suck. Also I wouldn't suggest driving, as driving isn't much fun, and parking is a bitch.
