What to do in Memphis?

So I'm going on a road trip with my sister this weekend and we're going to Memphis, do you guys know of any cool places to check out down there?

Thanks 🙂

Gotta see Elvis' house.

I have never seen it but my wife was dragged, kicking and screaming, to the tour many years ago with her parents. She said it was so tacky is was almost pathetic.

Dont forget to gamble 😛

Link to Graceland

Definately stroll down Beale Street. Go see Graceland, it's worth the price. Go 20 minutes south to Tunica and Gamble till your hearts content. Go to Mud Island.

I live in Memphis and have only driven by Graceland once. Unless you are really into Elvis, don't waste your time. Stick with downtown. Beale Street is fun and you can watch a Grizzlies game if they are in town. The FedEx Forum is a really nice place to watch a game. You can take the trolley tour. It makes the full loop of downtown and the driver will tell you about the history of Memphis. It also passes by the Loraine Motel where MLK was killed. Lots of good places to eat downtown. Someone has already mentioned the Rendezvous.

Go to Tunica, get drunk, gamble. Beale Street is overrated. Graceland is overrated. I hate Memphis. Dirty city.

Tunica is fun. As far as Memphis being dirty, the downtown area is as clean as any other city, but there are definitely some places you shouldn't go.

Graceland, Mud Island, Beale Street.

I had a crazy time on Beale Street. There are some real characters that hang out there at night. I saw many fights and someone pissing on another guy. Some great music down there.

You can go to the Peabody and watch the ducks march in. If you have never eaten at Texas de Brazil or something similar, I would recommend eating there.

Yeah, the Rondezvous is across the street from the Peabody so at least walk over and see the ducks.

Come to my house in Collierville! (Memphis Suburb)

Go to the Gibosn Guitar Factory as well. It's a pretty fun tour.

Memphis is my cup of tea...If A. Schwab is open at the hour you are on Beale Street definately stop in. It is an old variety store. B.B. King's is a great place to hear the Blues. Stop in Rum Boogie Cafe to check out their autographed guitar collection. Stop in Peabody Place and check it out. It is a mini-shopping mall. Avoid Hard Rock Cafe. Extremely overrated, especially in Memphis.

Talk to the carriage drivers and negotiate a good price. I have always had luck getting them down to nearly nothing. Their tours are pretty interesting if you get a great guide.

Skip Graceland. If you have time, definately make the 35-45 minute drive down to Tunica. Stop in a Horseshoe Casino and see if Executive Host George Klein is there. Tell him his friend from Osceola, Arkansas told you to stop in and get some free meal tickets. His schedule changes pretty often so I am not sure if he is working weekends now or not.
