I'm in california for training..never been here. Got a rental car with unlimited mileage, and I'm free from 5pm till for the rest of the week. Need to find stuff to do.

I am here

name some good places to go:

restaurants (got $50/day for food, pretty much dinner since training class provides lunch)

sports bars (where to go watch the game)

night clubs

any strip clubs worth going to?

thanks for input

I've actually stayed in that hotel. Your are right near the spectrum (you'll see the giant ferris wheel) -- it's basically a mall but there is also a theater and a couple of decent resteraunts. Also, you can always go to the beach. The Pacific is only a couple of miles away.

There's quite a bit to do. Like So said, theres a lot of stuff at the Irvine Spectrum (405 and Irvine Center Drive). Theres Fox Sports Grill there and a lot of bars to go to.
Theres also South Coast Plaza (the local mall) with a Morton's nearby. Theres also a Ruth's Cris Steakhouse off of Jamboree and the 405. I'm not sure if you are into sushi but there are a lot of places in this area that have excellent sushi.

For night clubs, there's not a whole lot unless you go up to LA. Shark Club is not bad esp if you like Asians.

For a nudie bar I have a "friend" that recommends Ecstasy off of Fairview and Warner (or Edinger, cant remember exactly).

Also since weather has been nice lately, you could go up to Huntington Beach and hang out. Theres a lot of surf shops and food around that area. Just take the 405 to Beach Blvd and head west until you hit the 1 then turn right.

visit beach
block of orange
disneyland
knotts berry farm
South coast Plaza
visit L.A.
cruise Pacific Coast Highway
if you want hookers edinger is where most are at 😛

Just FYI, Irvine is filled with affluent people primarily composed of Caucasian and Asian families. It's not an active night-life type of place at all. Lots of (expensive) shopping, lots of eating (every major restaurant you should be able to find nearby), lots of cars (theres going to be TONS of traffic at 5pm.) Don't speed, don't jaywalk, etc. It's a very clean, safe city as the cops are very stringent.

Personally, I'd just head to the beaches and do the tourist thing in that area. If you want more of the party atmosphere head to Los Angeles.

San Diego is an hour drive from Irvine too which includes:

-Balboa Park
-San Diego Zoo
-Seaworld
-Seaport Village
-San Diego Wild Animal Park
-Racetrack at Del Mar

there's some crazy boba off jeffrey off the 5 south.
a tapioca xpress on the right side, and a lollycup on the left.
tapioca is better at that location.

there's shaved ice in one of those lil shops directly accross from the tapoica xpress.

just got back from the irvine spectrum center. tried to go to Champps, but it was completely full, so I went to the Yard House to watch the game and grab a bite. Decent food, impressive beer selection. It's amazing how nice and clean everything here is, especially coming from New Orleans. I've never seen an outdoor mall like that.

so how exactly do I get to the beach? I don't want to get lost in this pimpin' Buick LeSabre that Hertz gave me. and is one beach better than the rest?

Forget Newport. The "scenery" is much better at HB. Take the 405 N, exit Beach Blvd, turn left, go all the way (5 miles or so) to PCH (the 1), turn right and you can't miss main street.

hop onto the 405 North and take the 55 South... itll end and just keep following the street it turns into... take you right to newport beach

if you've got an evening available, check out the irvine improv at the spectrum...they usually have some good people performing (recently they had wayne brady, cedric , damon waynes, pablo francisco...) decent price too

I used to work at the Spectrum so I can give you some insight if you choose to go back..

Food wise, your best bet is Cheesecake Factory non weekend. Fox Sports is usually pretty good Thu-Sat and of course game days. YardHouse is pretty weak, especially food wise.

Improv is definately recommended. Decent food, great comedy. Kinda expensive though cuz of the 2 item min, even more so if you're hungry.

Other than that, you gotta drive places to do anything fun. Irvine is definately a crappy place to party, but a great place to live.

Some beaches...

Crystal Cove
Corona Del Mar

Shopping...

There's Fashion Island down Jamboree in Newport Beach

You can visit the Tustin/Irvine Marketplace

Southcoast Plaza in Costa Mesa (Mall)

You can visit UC Irvine...

Microcenter...

Yeah not much to do in Irvine blah

Irvine closes at 9pm... Too bad the pub at UCI closed down, but other than that... get out of Irvine and have fun in the neighboring cities...

really? I tried CC factory in Pasadena and it sucked for me. meanwhile, I am quite pleased with Yardhouse in Pasadena, but its a bit overprice consider the quality.

also, I don't recall any strip joint in the OC area (well, other than Ectasy since angrymaxx mentioned)

and also as mentioned, Irvine and surrounding cities in Orange county is very clean and very strict. most places close before midnight and there's not much of a nightlife there.

i didn't like YH @pasadena

i didn't like YH @ISC either

chicken madeira, damn near any pasta, 90% of their appetizers, most of their desserts...cheesecake factory has some bomb ass food. good reason why there's a 2-4 hour wait on weekends

I'm in newport and I second the recommendation for ecstasy. A bit pricey but it is worth it.

The beaches are nice this time of year so try hitting up corona del mar. It is a very nice beach.
