Robert Taylor homes are fun...hell, the entire South Side is great, especially at night.

Wow... I guess you really are a Chicago n00b. It was a bad joke. Google Robert Taylor homes and you'll see why.

Here's a few suggestions:

Millenium Park (There are oftentimes concerts in the park)
Lincoln Park Zoo (I think they have some animals left 😉)
The lakefront has miles and miles of paths
Museum of Science and Industry
Natural History Museum
John G Shedd Aquarium
Shopping on Michigan Ave (Water tower, 900 N Michigan, etc)

THere are plenty of eating establishments aroung Michigan Ave.
Gibson's for steaks
RL on Chicago and Michigan is supposed to be a lot of fun (haven't tried it yet)
Cheesecake factory (on the bottom of the Hancock) personally, I could skip it, food isn't bad but oftetimes a 1.5+ hour wait
Ghiardelli's and/or Hershey store for ice cream and chocolate by Water Tower
Spa/afternoon tea at the Penninsula (the Spa is wonderful!)
American Girl store to shop/luch if you have a little girl

Well, that's a few real quick...

I'll add a few:

Navy Pier
River boat tour
John Hancock or Sears Tower observation decks
Alder Planetarium (next to Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium)
Art Institute of Chicago
Walk around the Loop
A crapload of bars and clubs in the Rush/Division street area

hahah, wrong just wrong!

Anyways, the women love shopping of michigan ave, but state street is just as good without the mad rush. Go see a concert at the House of Blues or catch a comic at Second City. Millenium Park is good if you have kids, Navy pier for you and the wife. What are you looking for?

I am actually taking my parents.. they are visiting me.. so I guess I go to chicago

I want something that will cater to older people, nice museums, beautiful places, good things to do, good restaurants, etc. would like to avoid the tourist traps.

How is the china town there? pretty good?

how about transportation? public transportation all the way? or should I rent a car??

In tha case, still hit up millenium park, tourist and locals alike love it, although i can't a point to the giganormous "BEAN" (you'll see what I mean) The Field Museum, Aquarium, and that whole little section (they're all right next to each other) is really popular.

Chinatown is pretty good, Greektown is smaller but still cool. Careful on the greektown cause it's close to a major college so it can be busy, but if you do go then check out a little place called Artopolis, it's a nice little greek tapas place.

Also, people love to go out on the Lake, there's a couple of tourist boats that you can ride out on, depending on the weather of course.

Check out Metromix.com too, they can tell you a lot more.

Navy Pier Baby!! and China Town...and if u get the chance, i used to live in the street names Argyle/Winthrope....its an asian place alot of Vietnamese resturaunts etc.

Oh yeah and on the transportation, you could cab it everywhere but you'll spend some money. Renting a car would be cheaper but looking and paying for parking will kill you. If you stay in the downtown area most of the time, then use the El train, cheap, efficient, and the occasional wierd idiot.

Greek Islands is also good for a more typical greek place.

Giordanos is ehhh ... OK but not very GOOD imo ....
Lou Malnatis Is the best, then Gino's East is second best.
You might want to check out Six Flags Great America if it's around the time of FrightFest, the lines are usually long and a pita, but the park is otherwise a lot of fun. Lots of decent roller coasters there but they took down the best one (Shockwave was awesome.)
