What to do if something was lost/damaged during airplane flight?ha

Hey I'm a little confused about what to do in this situation. Apparently my ipod shuffle that I put on its chargers slipped partially out of the bag that was checked in (zipper was closed when checked in) so when I picked up my bag all I had was half the charger dangling out with the rest of the shuffle missing. Is there anything I can do in this case? Thanks in advance.
