What to do (GB vs 845PE)?

Hi. Tell me which of these you'd rather do:

Option 1:
Gigabyte GA-8PE667 ULTRA (845PE)
P4 2.4B C1 Stepping

Option 2:
Aopen AX4R Plus (E7205)
P4 2.26

Right now I have a BD7-II (845E) and the 2.26. The 2.26 is at 2.8GHz right now, but I don't know if that's the max of the CPU because the board undervolts to 1.62v Option 1 I would be able to buy now and end up costing around $175 (after I sell the 2.26). Option 2 I'd have to wait until I can get my hands on the board (end of the month? Early next month?) and cost around $200.

I need to get a board because I have a 1.6A laying around and I need a motherboard for it so I can give it to my dad, because he's still stuck on a P3 500, hehe. So might as well buy a new motherboard and give him the BD7-II. So which would you get?

if you have to pay for it,buy the 845,gb is a waste of money😛

Personally GB has a bit more to show me and to come down from that overpriced plateau....I also don't think I would much stock in aopen anyways...It is the lowest on pricewatch...Is that why you picked it??? I wouldn't touch anything short of Asus,Epox, or Gigabyte for GB mobos.

I would go with the pe model and wait to see if the springdale is more successful coming to the market...

they are awesome boards, really good at ocing, and kinda cheaper i think too? (cept maybe abit...)

then wait for springdale and check that out and upgrade then

I'm paying for it. Usually when I upgrade I give my old parts to my little brother because he games a lot too, while my dad just does internet/email/word processing/etc. So I figure this round I'll give him my old parts since it's been so long since he's had an upgrade 🙂 And yeah I was considering the Aopen because it was the cheapest. The professional reviews on it seemed pretty solid (as well as 1 or 2 people who have it here and @ HardOCP). But yeah, I went ahead and went the cheap route, hehe. Asus P4PE refurb from newegg for $89 and just sticking with the 2.26. And I'll just wait for Canterwood and Prescott before dropping big bucks 😀 I really wanted a Granite Bay motherboard (picked up a second 512MB stick of Corsair XMS3200 a few months ago in anticipation), but too bad they are expensive and hard to get.

Fry's has that 8PE667 Ultra for 99$ brand new. I have this board with the same chip. I run it at 2.7Ghz with a front side bus of 150x18. I run my memory at the 4:5 ratio so it is running at 375Mhz. Now my memory is basic PC2700 memory. I could probably get this bad boy to 3Ghz if I decided to change my memory ratio down to 1:1, but I have been told to run the memory higher. I am using standard voltage and my PCI and AGP are 37.5Mhz and 75Mhz respectively.

i'd get a SIS 655
it is supposed to be cheaper and uses dual channel DDR 333 and it is gonna be launched next week

When will they be available? And it seems they will still be pretty pricey ($140-160). I think I'll just stick with the $89 P4PE and keep the money and put it towards Canterwood 😀

I also went with the Aopen GB board. I just oredered it. By reading reviews of Asus, Gigabtye, and Aopen, the Aopen is right there with asus and gigabtye. The reason Aopen is cheaper is not because it suck; Asus and Gigabtye has more features on their boards. Aopen perform as well and even better in some bench with the other GB board. The reason I go with Aopen over Asus, and Gigabtye is because I don't need the added features they provide since I run mainly scsi setup and also its cheaper. 🙂
