What to do at Service Interval

We're due for a yearly (10k) service on our 2014 Evoque with 40k miles we bought last year. Problem is, dealer wants $1200 (lol) for an oil change, coolant flush and inspection/check up.

Would any mechanic know what is required at each interval; should I bring it to an RR specialist? Normally I'd just google this but there is almost zero information about Evoque servicing out there.

I'd imagine an oil change, coolant flush and checkup at my normal mechanic would be like 300 bucks. But if he doesn't know the differential fluid is supposed to be changed at 40k and the car explodes its on me.

Its a freakin ford escape engine, can't be that complicated.

I agree about the coolant flush (uh like as in NO) just depending on which type it has either green or orange it mean either 100k or 150k miles... Differential should be done at 100k-150k also unless its synthetic...? Checked mine the other day at 225k miles and its still in great shape...

So I would say oil & filter too but also the air filter and leave it at that...

Any mechanic will have access to maintenance schedules and be able to do the work on the car. Lessee... *googles*

https://www.driverside.com/service-...over-2014-363301-921060-2499520&mileage=40000

Inspecting stuff should normally be free as a courtesy, if they're doing any other work. The actual work they're doing, if they follow the schedule, is:

  • Change fluid Crankcase
  • Replace Crankcase Oil Filter
  • Change fluid Brake system
  • Replace Cabin air filter
  • Replace Air filter element
  • Lubricate Hood latch assembly
  • Lubricate Door checks

$1500 is ridiculous. Part of that is going to be dealer rates (always high), the rest is the Land Rover tax.

I go to an independent mechanic. I've actually had that transmission (crankcase) work done on my Acura recently and it cost ~$200. I'd figure another ~$150 for the brake fluid flush. (It cost ~$100 on my Ford Focus, but that was a while ago.) Check retail parts cost - Honda fluids seem to be on the expensive side, but a Land Rover probably uses some kind of unobtanium fluid too - and adjust expectations accordingly, but I bet if you shop around...

Anyway, yeah. Tack on another <$50 for an oil change and <$150 for a coolant flush, which should be optional anyway. (It usually lasts a lot longer than 40k.)

The air filters are almost always meant to DIY, and you should learn how. Charging $100+ to spend two minutes changing a $20 air filter is how dealerships punish the willfully ignorant. They do it with windshield wipers too. (My local Acura dealership charges $60 per wiper.) If you buy the filters at AutoZone, the employee there might help you swap them, but you should learn how. Youtube for directions.

Lubricating your latches and door checks is easy with a can of silicon spray and one of those squirty-straws.

If you do it yourself it will cost you $80 for oil and coolant change.

If someone quoted me $1200 for a 40k service i would have walked out the door without even saying another word.

Yeah I mean I wasn't going to use them regardless but I was still surprised at that number even by dealer standards.

I have no problem paying reasonable prices for standard service even if its not totally required. These things are unreliable enough as is, so a little extra maintenance is fine by me especially if it helps with any future warranty claims.

So yeah like Dave_the_nerd says with those fluid changes -- ~$500 bucks I'm fine with. I already bought the air filter to do myself. $1200 for an oil change and 'what they see as needed' is obviously a joke.

This info should be in the owners manual. At 40K mi you should only need an oil change, maybe an air filter and/or cabin air filter, and check the front brakes and all the fluid levels. Some might say it is due for brake fluid replacement but I've never done that (at only 40K) and wouldn't unless you notice fade during heated driving.
