Quit my job in April to attend school in a different state. Expected VA benefits to pay for living/school, however they are not meeting my needs. Slapped with $1800 in dental bills due to a bad molar(root canal + crown), car needs a lot of work done, and my roommate has absurd utility bills which she expects me to pay half of. Trying to get even a part time job here has become stressful and non-productive. Employers never even look at my resume nor do they respond. Can't get a retail job, and if you ask "why?" search for the recent "why is it so hard to get a job in retail" thread and then consider that I'm living in a college town without any real industry.

I have so many years of experience with computer/electronics repair that I'm no longer entry level, but probably more of a senior tech/management person. I don't have a degree yet, but I have training/knowledge and experience equivalent or above most entry level engineers. I guess I'm either over-qualified or missing the key component for most of the resume filtering programs.

Options:
1. Stay here, take out student loans and put myself into debt... continue with school.
2. Apply to jobs in San Diego, CA where I have connections/friends and available jobs... attend night school.
3. Go back to VA and get my old job back... commuter traffic kills just about every opportunity to attend school while working, unless I get a degree from the University of Phoenix.

Cliffs:
1. Life sucks, what do I do?

EDIT

Old boss offered remote work. No moving, no Virginia.... :)

Consider applying for state or federal government jobs
They give vets a preference.

I don't really know your situation but when I did my college I did my first 2 years at NOVA and worked part time while collecting VA benefits. I just made sure that every course I took would transfer to another Virginia 4 year university. Of course I was under the old GI Bill which had much better benefits that the current one. Personally I would do Community College before I considered mail order.
