What to do about laptop heating? Coolpad any good?

I got a Compaq Presario 2700T and I noticed it gets hot on the bottom. I had been using in bed but now I put a book underneath and prop it up on the rear stands. I have seen this Laptop CoolPad by Road Tools and was thinking of getting it.

Has anyone used it? Can you put it on your lap and use the laptop? I find my laptop tips too far back to use on my lap.

Laptops all get hot on the bottom. That is where a lot of hot components are vented. It is important not to block those vent slots. But, they will always get pretty warm to the touch. They should rest on a hard surface with good air circulation underneath. Some laptops use Celerons and AMD processors which are not truly mobile in design, and create a lot more heat. Make sure th cooling fan is working. The coolpad will help, but the best thing is to use it in a cool area. What is does is provide an environment where all of the things I have mentioned happen. It guarantees adequate airspace underneath. The term "laptop" is really a misnomer.

I have had 5 of them since 1994, and not one has ever been cool enough to comfortably place on a lap.
