what to do about broken laptop

So, my screen cracked on my panasonic cf-y2. Probably my fault...but it did crack under only a very small amount of pressure. The warranty doesn't cover it, and they want to charge me $1125 to replace it. It was a college graduation gift. I have plenty of money...but maybe there are other possibilities...

maybe I could sell it, and get a different laptop, thus saving me money, but would anyone buy a screen-less laptop?

Anyways, I mostly feel like rambling right now. I really don't want to pay $1125, but I do want my laptop...but I don't want one that will break so easily...but I could be more careful...or I could get it fixed, sell it for like $2k(its worth $2400), then get a different one...but no other laptop is as cool as the panasonic...

bah...

owned.

also shop around

#3 buy one that dies from natural causes and swap

#4 kill yourself if all else fails

Try fixing it on your own

I know a friend of mine got an apple laptop with a broken screen and fixed it, I wish I could land a laptop in similar condition to fix 😛

well if you could fix it for ~1200, and sell it for 2k, i think it'd be a lot more attractive to a potential buyer than a laptop with a broken screen that could possibily be worth 2k if it wasn't broken. Whether or not you want to keep it, or sell it, or get another one, is obviously up to you

If you can find the model of the LCD, you could find one on eBay and fix it yourself.
hmmm...this is possible...although its not a very widely distributed laptop...

There's no way you will find a sucker to buy it for $2,000. Best option is to buy a new laptop and keep this one and connect an external monitor and use it as a non portable PC.

I tried replacing the LCD on a broken laptop once. I bought one for about $20 on eBay (didn't want to spend too much as I wasn't sure if it would work). I couldn't do it because the screen I bought was slightly different than the one I was trying to replace. If you feel comfortable with computer hardware, I'd try it. Unless the laptop is REALLY good, I'd recommend just using it as a desktop. You can get a fairly good laptop for unter $1100. Also, you could see if you can return the broken laptop to the manufacturer for a credit for a new laptop.
