what to do about a cracked palm organizer screen?

my friend dropped his palm IIIxe tonight and now there's a crack running diagonally across the screen. if he were to acquire a non-functional palm with no cracks/scratches on the screen, would it be possible to transfer it over to his own? or is the only alternative sending his unit back to palm and pay the $100 to have it replaced?

suggestions?

I would just send it back, chances would be that a non-functional one might have a screwy screen as well.

If he had another IIIxe that worked right, then yes, he could replace it in a heartbeat. However, since that's not the case, you'll just have to back it up(use backup buddy), and send it off to Palm.

sending it away is probably the best bet, rather than to take any chances of any other mishaps,

"...he could replace it in a heartbeat."

i was considering posting a WTB thread seeing if anyone had a non-functional palm (anything in the III family) with a perfect screen. i just didn't know whether swapping the screens was a feasible idea.

The screen in the IIIe, IIIx, and IIIxe, are the same as the old III. So if you do try and buy one, don't get the III. It has a older uglier screen, which is no comparison to the one in the newer III series and no match for the one in my Plam V, which BTW is a tiny bit sharper than the IIIx's :D

if they are the same model, you can swap them. There is a plug that connects the mainboard and the LCD, with the male/female on the main board.

yeah, but i don't think he bought one of the extended warranty plans.

actually, judging by his reaction, i KNOW he didn't :)

in case someone else has the same problem, right now it looks like the most viable solution is Palmmedic.com
