i currently have 768 RAM. should i take out 256,and add 512 or take it all out and put in 1 GB?also, if i have ram from different rands, will it matter?
 
What do you use your computer for, what are its specs?

Different brands is OK for single channel use, and often (but not always) for dual channel.
