What to buy / When to buy? *** Xbox vs. PS2

Turkish

Lifer
So I am planning on getting a Xbox or PS2, not Gamecube though... So whichone should I choose now? I remember Xbox not having so many games at the beginning but I think there are plenty right now? And is this a good time to buy a console? Will their prices go down soon? I heard Gamecube will be around $99 at walmart after october 7th, but will xbox and ps2 prices stay the same? What you all think?

Well, I would say your best bet is an X-box. I sorry to say but Sony might be the industry leader, but nintendo was the leader at one time too. Xbox has good games, better online gaming, and has the comnpany behind it that makes more money then sony ever will.

I don't think XBox or PS2 prices will drop very much... the PS2 does have inferior hardware but it does have a wider variety of games and it has Gran Turismo...

Then again, the XBox is like owning a HTPC if you mod it right. Haven't heard anything about the PS2 HD in the US yet... but Sony moves very slowly on it.

Actually, the Sony Corporation pulls in over 40B in revenues a year, while Microsoft pulls in about 30B.

Sony's revenue are greater than Singapore's and Nigeria's total country revenues.

Buy the one with the games you want to play. Want to play Gran Turismo? Get a PS2. Want to play Halo 2? Get an XBOX.

PS2 is an inferior product hardware wise, but that obviously doesn't matter you. Thus, pick the one with the lineup of games you prefer.

Buy at CC for pricematch guarantee. If they drop next month, you can collect the difference.

I'm confident that Microsoft doesn't need to worry about money. 😉

I own an X-box and I'm happy with it. Playstation controllers make me feel like I have arthritis.

It matters...

If you have a beefy machine that's capable of playing PC games decently and will be able to upcoming PC games, then get a PS2.

If you don't have a good PC and it's a POS, then get an Xbox.

98% of the Xbox titles are going to be on the PC as well. Everything from Half Life 2, Doom 3, KOTOR (allready out), Dues Ex 2, Thief 3, Halo, etc...

To be honest I'd rather play those games on my PC, but I do understand that there are people that don't would rather play from a couch or just don't have the means to buy a nice PC.

the developers will follow the money.
sony has, by far, the largest installed base.

as far as the the hardware inferiority,i am sorry there is simply not large enough of a gap between the two for this to even make a difference.
Sony will continue to have all or most of whats on the Xbox, and alot that isnt.

You are right. And I was mistaken about Sony, in 2000 they actually pulled in revenues in excess of 60B!

Good lord that's a lot of money.

Xbox is more powerful, better graphics on most of their games, faster load times, but PS2 has a ton of games, not that they are all good.

I have both, and wouldn't want to live without either.

My brother went with PS2 because of the huge library of $19.99 games. He's got his PC for everything else.

That's what makes the PS2 so appealing. There's a boatload of games that are super cheap so if price is a concern then get a PS2. If Metal Gear Solid is your type of game I think the third installment should be out sometime soon so that's something to look foreward to.

If i had 30 billion dollars I really wouldn't care. plus it is only a 10 billion dollar differance, like that is gonna make a differance.

sony has the market right now but how long have they been working on it. Give the Xbox a few years and sony will be number 2.

Figure out what games you want to play and then buy the console that those games are available on.

Also, make note that a new PS2 is coming out (last time i checked!). It will be silver and simply be called "PSX". I'd check into this if you plan to get a ps2.

they will never be number 1 in japan.
and this rev of the xbox will never surpass the playstation2
in a few years is irrelevant, he obviously wants to make a purchase now.
i suppose he could preorder the xbox2, its only 3 years away or so :/

The PSX is just the PS2 with the harddrive and built in PVR software. Might be good, but I'm guessing it's going to be way overpriced.

hey man, I was just replying to your statement that Microsoft has more money than Sony will ever have. If you're going to put a fact down like that, at least research it first.

<---owns and Xbox and a broken PS2

Xbox by far. The games are much better and Xbox live is really nice. (Just bought it [Live] last week and love it)
