What to buy P45 or X48?

You have an X38 linked. The main difference between P45 and X48 is the PCI-E lanes. The P45 is 8x8 2.0 and the X48 is 16x16 2.0 so the X48 has more bandwidth in this regard. Also they service different market segments, the P45 is aimed at the more budget end while the X48 is the High end, so you can expect the high end X48 boards to have more bells and whistles.
 
Dual vid cards is usually not a good buy and what they say holds true about if you plan on buying a second card down the road; most likely, 1 new gen will out perform your 2 cards

personally i'd go for the P45
