Question What to buy? Limited Budget. RTX 2060 or GTX 1070 Ti (Used/cheaper)

Looking to replace my good ole GTX 970, it has served me well for the past 3 years but its now time to upgrade and pass this baby on to a new owner. I was wondering what are the Pros or Cons between the RTX 2060 and the GTX 1070 ti? No interested on Ray Tracing and it won't be used (Maybe just tested to see what is about but I don't care for it) Just overall performance is about the same in both cards. The RTX 2060 out performs the GTX 1070ti on some aspects and vice versa.

I can save a few dollars on the GTX 1070 ti, but which one should I really get? RTX 2060 drops Tuesday next week.

Looking forward to the input. Looking to buy one in the next 2 weeks.

Are you thinking of going used for a 1070 Ti? Because the cheapest new 1070 Ti I see on pcpartpicker is a crap MSI Armor (terrible cooler from what I have read) for $420 after $20 mail in rebate while the 2060 FE is supposed to be $349 MSRP. I'm in the same boat (thinking of replacing my 4+ year old 970) and I would always go with getting the current gen if going Nvidia after seeing how completely nerfed Kepler was after Maxwell was entrenched and even seeing how much Maxwell has fallen off in comparison to Pascal (nowhere near as bad as what happened to Kepler though). Personally I'm probably waiting for Navi though unless Sekiro Shadows Die Twice murders my 970. Though I know Metro Exodus on February 15th will destroy my 970.

Ah crap, I didn't see the (used/cheaper) part of your title. From looking at ebay prices I would never consider going previous gen used just to save $50 or so when the performance between the two cards is virtually the same in classic rendering. Even if RT and DLSS turns out to not be worth it I'll take the three year warranty and current gen architecture that will be Nvidia's highest priority in driver development for the extra $50.

Yes used also looking forward to both those games. I wouldn't buy the GTX 1070 ti new, for that I'd just buy the RTX 2060 new instead.

Thing is gorgeous man. I know they are $350 that's how much the GTX 970 was on release as well or at least its how much mine was new from Newegg 3 years ago. Problem is I don't like the EVGA or ASUS RTX 2060 Model's so the only options is the MSI Or Gigabyte RTX 2060 but I LOVE The Gigabyte XTREME its hands down the most beautfiul RTX 2060 from all the brands followed closely by the MSI Top tier model.

You know now that you pointed out the $50 difference I am just going to buy an RTX 2060 for sure. Unless the one I want is $100 more for whatever reason. You think it will be a lot more since its the top tier model? Speaking of the Gigabyte RTX 2060 XTREME by the way. Gigabyte has like 3 or 4 RTX 2060 models that will be for sale soon.

If you don't already have something or can't find one hell of a deal within 5 minutes of looking, just save yourself the hassle and get the new card.

Otherwise as far as pros/cons, they're fairly similar cards when it comes down to it in terms of performance. The 1070 Ti has more memory (8 GB vs 6 GB) but the 2060 has much better memory bandwidth. I don't know what resolution you run, but I don't see 6 GB being much of an issue over the life of the card if you're still gaming at 1080p.

Very well put and yes I was looking specifically for an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW2 not FTW but FTW2.

Gonna do my self a favor and just buy the RTX 2060 for sure. Someone just posted a bunch of different brand/model GTX 1070's on my local Facebook marketplace asking $200 per card but you can tell they were used for mining or badly taken care of, some are crusted in dust. $200 tho? what do you think? I wouldn't get the fancy RGB I want but wouldn't that be worth it if you trying to save some money? Plus he says they still have warranty.

If you play at 1080p or 1440p and have no plans on upgrading to a 4K monitor within the next 3 years then 2060 is good choice.

Last time i bought a card solely for the best performance in what i played currently at the time,i choose a 2gb 770 over a 4gb 290x.This was before games really used anything pass 2gb.I won't be making that mistake EVER again.

The above being said with no interest in RTX,i would seriously consider the 8 gb1070ti. That one game may come out and well you could be handicapped.You seem to be the person who wants something to last more then a year or 2.Even a used 1070 would be a good upgrade over the 970 and a decent deal cheaper then a 2060.

That is also what has annoyed me a lot. People not being able to see past the present and give dubious advice to buyers on the basis of current games and requirements overlooking that most people unlike themselves like to keep card for as long as possible.

I can't say I'm hyped on any of the 2060s for $350 though. When I got my 970 for $340 it was offering previous gen flagship performance (eg 780 Ti) at half the price. Now if I want 1080 Ti performance in the current gen I'm stuck paying $700 for a 2080. Blech. I really hope my 970 can handle Sekiro and that Navi can bring some sanity to gpu pricing. But if not I'm not prepared to wait 9 months to play Sekiro and I probably will go for a 2060 6GB even though I know I'll never get four years out of it like I have my 970.

Yea you do know there is benchmarks for the 2060 right? it actually matches performance of the GTX 1070 ti on some instances.

That's a really good option but I am satisfied with 1080p and that's a bit over kill for me honestly plus its $50 more

The TDP is also about double for the Vega. I don't know where the OP lives, but if electricity is expensive there, the costs can start to add up.

The 2060 has a comparable TDP to the 970 he'd be replacing so it's pretty unlikely that it would necessitate an other component upgrades. Without knowing more about the computer, I'd hesitate to suggest putting in a card that's going to have significant power draw increases.

Could be a valid point as well but its just Overkill for me honestly, I live in the USA by the way. Really think the RTX 2060 is going to be a great investment on my behalf. I mean the GTX 970 has being rock solid for my games like Rust, Black Ops4, Battlefield 4/1 and Rainbow 6 Siege which are the games I play the most, Zero complaints on performance, but its now 3 years since I bought it and its getting a little outdated. I think buying a 2060 would be enough for another 3 years.

Honestly I have over 100 games but only have like 5 or 6 I play almost every day, so the 2060 would be a power house at 1080p for my gaming needs.

Too bad the EVGA 2060 is super ugly, and it has no backplate, the Asus looks bland as well, the ones I like the most are MSI Top tier 2060 and the Gigabyte top tier 2060. The models below are okay but don't have all the fancy RGB Lighting that I want. Just hope the Top tier models don't cost a whole bunch extra. I can say $50 more but no more than that.
Well just one more day for 2060 release according to sources, guess will find out soon. (Release 1/15/19)

Well 1070 is like 15% to almost 20% slower than the 2060 that's the only downside IMO If it was almost on par with the 1070 (None ti) I'd definitely get it and ditch the 2060 for it

Well I am gonna have to wait to see how much the RTX 2060 that I really want cost by tomorrow when they release. I don't see saving $25 a huge difference if the 1070ti is $325 and the 2060 is really $350 but guess will have to wait and see.

It has been a bit of a trend to,faster cards with less vram usually never last against those with more.Like the 7970 vs 680 or the 770 vs 290x.Heck even the botched up 970 and its "4gb" of vram ended up losing to the 290x.

Yes I've made threads about it but its a futile discussion where most people defend lower vram cards and prefer to suggest a card that's 10% faster instead, case in point rx570 8gb vs rx580 4gb. Anyways the OP wanted a suggestion between 1070Ti vs 2060. Now the reason i suggested 2060 is because its not possible to find a 1070Ti for $350 (although whether a 2060 can be had for $350 also remains to be seen).

You can indeed get EVGA FTW2 GTX 1070ti for $350 on eBay "Used" just not sure what to do yet. Going to have to wait until tomorrow (No big deal) To see the 2060 prices on release. Fingers Crossed
