I have system with kt7a and TB 750 @ 960. Need to buy a sound card under $50 bucks. I did try a diamond MX300, but it does not work in W2K. Need some opinions from any one of you.

Aopen AW744L Four channel out with digital coax output! Uses Yamaha 744 processor. Aopen has great driver support so Win2K works great. Good card, even better price.

$27 Shipped

sheesh man, sound blaster live hands down and if u can scrape up some more bucks like $10 or so order a soundblaster live xgamer from staples and use one of their coupon codes and get it for like $50+ something i forget exactly how muhc it was like $56 or something..

Isn't eviLBS (SBLive) a poor choice for a Win2K system? Also, obviously no one really knows what they're talking about since the person asking the question failed to specify what the card would be used for... ie; gaming, cd audio, etc... SBLive is not the best all around card, and may possibly not be the best at anything.

well, i am goint to use the card for general purpose. i play game occationally and list to MP3 as well. If SB live is not that good, do you have any suggestion?

If you are overclocking high fsb SB live, but I have had good results with several others like the onboard sound that comes on the I815 motherboards.. the plus there is the free PCI slot.

depends on what you're gonna do with it......
I picked up an OEM version of the Yamaha YMF-724 (DX-XG Chipset) PCI Card for $20. It's not the greatest card for gaming, but sonically is pretty damm clean, (as far as low end cards go).
I use Logic Audio (don't know if anyone's familiar with it), and it's one of the VERY FEW recomended and tested 2-track Cards (due to low latentcy times). I do as many as 24 tracks (playback) simultaneoulsy, and it handles quite well considering that there isn't much DSP built into the card. I have it in my 'Classic' Athalon/KA7 setup. The only drawback to it is the 1/8" stereo input jack is pretty flimsy, i've had to re-solder it a few times.
but best of all - it's 2K Compatible.

EDIT- Billabong's link will take you to the Re-Bagged version of my card, w/surround, and SPDIF.
