Got a pair of well-used E2140 CPUs. They do 3.2Ghz on 1.4v.

Should I try to sell them (I think I have them currently listed in my FS/FT thread, but no offers yet.)

Or should I try to build a budget rig with them? HD prices make that not such a great proposition. I'm selling the last two budget systems, that I built with an E5200 and an E3300 at a loss, just to get rid of them.

I also have a S478 P4 3.2Ghz Northwood chip. Would I be crazy to build a rig around that too? That would probably be an insane idea, since you would never get the $$$ for a P4 rig, no matter what else you put in the rig.

I would try and sell them if it was me .

Yeah hard drive prices are crazy i wanted a respectable 1tb replacement for my 3 1/2 year old seagate and i found a 64gb sata 6 ssd for cheaper so made the 3 1/2 year old seagate a data only drive:)

Sounds like a pair of little dynamos!

I'll give you the possible options. Besides building a rig yourself, you could:

Sell them for auction on Ebay, where refurbishers will look at "1.6 Ghz" and pay you around $12 each. Then they will probably be stuffed into an old, sad-looking eMachines case and end up God knows where. OR...

You could give them to a fellow member on the forum who needs them and will use them properly and lovingly, always thinking of the kindness of VirtualLarry and how great his little E2140s peform.

I recommend the 2nd option. Yes, I need some older dual-cores. Yes, I don't want to pay a large price, but perhaps a nominal shipping fee would suffice. You can check out my thread in the "Computer Help" section here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2214859. Basically I have a P45 Gigabyte board that isn't working, I think it might be that it needs a C2D processor but I'm not positive about this, and don't want to pay out the yin-yang to find out.

Also, I could put one in my Linux workstation, it currently has a Pentium D and would probably fly with an upgrade. :)

When you put it that way... you've got my vote :D

Ok, I recommend janas19's second option
