I don't think anyone knows what to believe these days. Has U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East been influenced by our interest for oil in the past though? Yes. Its an extreme viewpoint, but doesn't mean it isn't possible.

Unless you're a current cabinet member of our executive system i don't think anyone really knows what the hell is going on.
