I tried unlocking my XP1600 last week & was only partially successful ,I could get x11 (which gave me 1.67GHz:)) but no higher:p.
(I filled the slits with Silicon sealant btw which is much easier to use & remove than superglue & is still an insulator!)

So I cleaned them off for another attempt at a latter date,I boot my rig up & the cpu now thinks its an XP1500! :( ,SETIspy(which also shows cpu MHz) confirms a clock speed of 1.33GHz @ 133FSB.On the post screen it says 'XP1500' ,this means its lowered the default multiplier!? ,when I had it partially unlocked it was showing cpu MHz & not model number.
Looking at the multiplier chart at THG it would seem that the 1st L3 bridge has been closed ,thing is its clear! wtf?!

Btw because I've managed to expose the copper by the L1 bridges on this XP as well

it looks like I will have to alter the default multiplier instead of fully unlocking the L1 bridges to overclock it:(.

These bloody XP's are a nightmare to unlock:|:(:disgust:
One thing I did wonder about is whether the Silicon sealant is sufficiently insulative for unlocking cpus?

Thoughts anyone?

It sounds to me like you've got some conductive material down in one or more of the pits. Try cleaning them out better and see if that helps :)

well ifyou are at a multiplier of 10, isnt that a good thing?
unless your ram is holding your max fsb back....

you can also use crayon, whiteout to insulate

yes that is the general idea of unlocking

ex
xp1800=1.53ghz
if i unlock it, make mult 10, it will be 1.33ghz (xp1500+)
if i raise the fsb to 153, it will again be at 1.53ghz but will be faster since the front side bus is faster

stay away from the exposed copper by the bridges!! you will want to change the L3's for a "permanent" multiplier. I used silicon as well to fill the pits on my XP1600+ AGOIA. all multipliers I've tested work fine (x9- x12). Can't wait till my 8K5A2+ gets here to do some real benchmarking. seti will love the bandwidth of a FSB running ~ 170+!!

I see a few people can't be bothered to rig my sig profile:p,not to worry;).

Thanks guys :)

I have an Asus A7V266-e with Crucial PC2100 RAM ,whilst it does run right up to 152MHz @ CAS2 it won't go any higher ,so I need a multiplier of x11,x11.5 & x12 so I can see what the limit is:).The cpu did 1.67GHz without any voltage increase:D ,so I'm hoping there's some left.

Getting faster RAM ,whilst that would be ideal ,I don't want to spend anymore money ,also the KT266a chipset will put the PCI bus higher & higher out of spec if I kept raising the FSB

I'm just about to tyr cleaning it again so wish me luck!;)

Good to hear that Silicon works fine :) ,I thought it probably was really ,much easier to applie & remove than superglue!
Re the copper ,yeah I discovered that lowered the multipliers when I screwed up my last L1 unlocking exercise!

Can't wait to here your WU times with 170MHz FSB! :D

Phew! ,it worked!:) ,it's back to an XP1600 again ,running it at 1.6GHz (152MHz FSB).

Funny thing is I couldn't really see where the unwanted connection was! ,but carfully scracthing around with a pin & mag glass seemed to sort it:)
I also managed to cover the exposed copper with silicon so hopefully I can still unlock the L1 bridges at a latter date;)
If not I'll go for the L3&4 bridges
