I just installed an Atlon XP 1600 from Newegg.com in the system I built for my brother's birthday Sunday.
When the computer starts up, it says the proc is running at 1050mhz and in Windows XP Pro it shows up as an AMD Athlon Processor at 1.05ghz. Whats the deal? I know its an XP chip because the cpu clay or whatever it is was brown not purple like my T-bird. What should I do?

System:
MSI KT3 Ultra
Supposedly XP 1600+
256MB Mushkin PC2400 DDR
Gainward 64MB GF4 4200
IBM 60GB 120GXP(I think thats the lettering) HD
A-Drive
AOpen 52x CD-rom
WinXP Pro
Enermax 300wat PSU

the Xp 1600+ has a clock multiplyer of 10
therfore 133x10 = ~1.4ghz
you are most likely running yur fsb at 100
which would yeild a 100x10 = ~1.0ghz
just enter yur motherboard bios and up the fsb to 133 (266ddr)

btw, soulkeeper means 10.5, not 10 :p

either a mobo setting or jumper setting in bios, it is pushing your cpu @ 100mhz fsb

easily pump it up to 133 for your 1600+ (1.4ghz)

133 x 2 = 266mhz ddr for your ram, but your ram should be able to handle 333mhz (166 x 2) which is a setting in bios probably

it would be a 4/5 cpu/ram ratio btw

goodluck!

I would if I knew how to do it in the bios. The mobo manual doesn't help much. I tried to do it from in windows with FuzzyLogic but the computer locked at 116mhz

Go into your bios setup screen and just go through every section, every option until you find the one for FSB speed. If it doesn't exist, you'll need to contact MSI tech support to find out which jumper you need to switch.

wow didn't even check my math
just thought i was all sure of myself heh
yeah you enter the bios usually by pressing the delete button when the system beeps on reboot
this will let you controll many features of you basic imput output system (bios)
should be a simple setting somewhere to up the fsb
since you have the kt333 chipset you have the option of running the mem at either 133 or 166 or whatever it can take
have fun
