my boss wants me to do backup images of everyone's pcs. there's like 70 pcs and it can take 30 min to 4 hours depending on the pc. a did a few a couple months ago and thats the fastest and slowest time it took to do a pc.

you can't do anything on the pc while its imaging either, correct? so that means major downtime for the user when i do this...

what's the point of doing seperate images of everyone's PC? why not do a clean image of the PC and then just back up everyone's files?

are there important things on each PC that needs to be backed up?

i mean, if you don't mind me asking, what does your company do? are there unique applications on each PC that needs to be imaged? some kind of configurations that happen on some PCs and not others?

manufacturing company. some have unique apps but most don't. you can't apply one image to every pc out there anyway. they have different hardware.

trying to understand how my boss does what he does is a lesson in futility

That sounds like a nightmare. What are you using to dump the images to? If this is your only option here is what I would do.

Setup one machine with at least an 80+GB drive. Enough space to store the images. Install Ghost on this machine. Then pull the drive out of the employee machine and slave it up to the ghost machine. Then just dump the image from drive to drive. Might save you some time.

I haven't used ghost 9 in a while. But can't you boot from the cd and save it to a ghost cast server.

i don't know how many times i've thought that myself. maybe it woudln't be so bad if i had another person to help me out. right now its just me and my boss and he doesn't help out with any of the little things. quite honestly, i don't know wtf he does all day because half the time i don't even know where he is.
